THURSDAY SHOW RECAP: DAKODA SHEPLEY JOINS!
Thursday’s Episode #186 of Canada’s only live morning sports talk show, The Rod Pedersen Show was a treat! Here are the highlights:
- Rod, Dupes and Regina Pats great Frank Kovacs opened the show with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore, covering these Magnificent Seven show topics: 1) The Blades 4-3 home loss to the Hitmen Wednesday night, 2) Flames’ comeback OT win over Columbus, 3) The “confusing” format of the Brier, and Sask being 6-1 entering the next round, 4) Tom Brady leaving New England?, 5) Andy Dalton to the Patriots?, 6) RP Show viewership stats by city, and 7) Caitlyn Jenner speaking in Regina on Wednesday.
- The boys always talk a lot of junior hockey on Thursdays and they were joined via video chat by former Blazers, Warriors, Broncos, Klippers and Team Canada coach Dave Hunchak from Kamloops. They discussed the stretch drive in the WHL, the opening of SJHL playoffs on Friday, Vancouver Canucks love across BC and “Hunch” chuckled that he never thought he’d see Rod cheer for a Kelly McCrimmon team (the Vegas Golden Knights). A viewer from Ottawa asked Rod’s opinion on the Senators mess and Rod said no one in Western Canada cares about the Ottawa Senators.
- Roughriders offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley – a former NY Jet and UBC Thunderbird – joined the show from his home in Windsor, ON. He discussed his off-season training, the outlook for the 2020 Roughriders, criticism of the “aging” Riders OL, and Dakoda said he is a big fan of the RP Show and is planning the launch of his own podcast in the near future. Shepley has a brand which stretches beyond football, and he explained how he’s careful building his image outside the white lines.
- A scheduling conflict bumped country star Gord Bamford’s appearance to Friday.
- Kovacs was a Minnesota North Stars draftee and said he’s taken with Shepley’s story, and how exciting it will be to watch it unfold. Frankie discussed his lengthy pro hockey career with stops in Dayton, Germany, Sheffield in the UK and Hungary.
- NFL Insider Jim Lang joined via video chat from Toronto and talked about Wendel Clark not being in the Hockey Hall of Fame (Jim co-wrote Wendel’s autobiography Bleeding Blue). They then got into a deep NFL chat including Tom Brady’s future (Rod thinks Brady will sign in Vegas while Jim’s narrowed it down to the Chargers or Raiders) and they took several questions from viewers.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who is the favourite to win the NHL’s Hart Trophy – Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Nathan McKinnon or David Pastrnak? The whopping majority of respondents voted for Neon Leon.
