MONDAY SHOW RECAP: #ForTheW

The guys were back at it Monday with more big fun on Episode #260 of The RP Show! Here are the highlights:

  • RP opened the show by saying it would be a big “reveal” day and he unzipped his jacket to reveal a Winnipeg Blue Bombers T-shirt which was sent in by Bomber fan “Pumper”. Rod said he offered to pay for the shirt but Pumper said he’d pay anything to drive Rider fans nuts. The crew had a big laugh and agreed that they profess to be a CFL-wide show.
  • In The Rollout for Flooring Superstore, RP and Dupes covered these Quick Six show topics: 1) A recap of the weekend which included a lot of golf at Deer Valley, 2) The Auston Matthews/Steve Simmons saga, 3) Nascar’s Bubba Wallace suffers a racial indignation at Talladega, 4) With all these positive Coronavirus tests, will we see team sports in 2020?, 5) Rod recalled when the Norwalk Virus attacked the WHL years ago and how the teams dealt with it, and 6) Week 2 CFL Sim recap.
  • Boxing Canada President and former Mayor of Regina Pat Fiacco joined the show for a 40-minute visit in Hour 1. They covered all the above topics. Canada’s Toughest Mayor discussed his parents emigrating to Canada from Italy 60 years ago and the racial issues they experienced at the time. He also discussed the future of the CFL and he and Rod agreed that CFL-lovers need to express their support of the league at this time. King’s Park Speedway officials were watching and offered Pat and Rod the opportunity drop the green flag on their opening weekend July 18. Fiacco also answered several viewer questions including public-funding for stadiums, haters, and much more. Pat feels it’s important to follow the Health & Safety guidelines set forth by the government and that this is a case of “short term pain for long term gain”.
  • In Hour 2 the Bomber talk continued as Winnipeg offensive lineman Jermarcus Hardrick joined the show from Nebraska. He explained how he’s keeping busy during the pandemic, reflected on the 2019 Grey Cup victory and what game day was like, and how he’s find his niche in Winnipeg after bouncing around with the Saints, Storm, Lions and Roughriders. The 6’5″, 315 lb tackle also explained the origin of his nickname “Yoshi” and revealed that he’s a big fan of the RP Show.
  • U of Calgary Athletic Director Jason Kerswill joined the show to discuss the decision to cancel fall sports in Canada West. He went into a detailed explanation of what went into the decision and how they plan to take care of their student athletes. RP said he felt enlightened after Jason’s interview.
  • The guys spent a segment on Week 2 of the CFL SIM schedule and RP said with so much ugliness in sports right now, the SIM provides lots of laughs and a diversion. They went through the league-leaders through two weeks: Vernon Adams Jr. (passing), Marcus Thigpen (rushing) and Richie Sindani (receiving). A viewer Twitter poll will determine which Week 3 game will air on The RP Show Facebook Live channel. Last Friday’s Montreal/Saskatchewan broadcast drew 11,000 viewers.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Did Steve Simmons do anything wrong by disclosing Auston Matthews’ positive Coronavirus results? At press time, 60% of respondents said yes. Pat Fiacco voted no, saying it’s important that journalists be allowed to report the truth.
  • Fiacco was named the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions by acclimation.
