TUESDAY RECAP: WALLY BUONO JOINS!
Just like this weekend’s Nascar event, it’s a photo finish to decide Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day on Episode #261 of The RP Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Columbus is out of the running to be an NHL Hub City, 2) Bubba Wallace honoured at Talladega. Will the FBI find the culprit(s)?, 3) The HHOF 2020 class will be unveiled Wednesday. Why is there a stigma around Theoren Fleury?, 4) The Raptors are off to Ft. Myers, FL for training camp, 5) Dak Prescott to sign the $31.4M franchise tender with the Cowboys, and 6) Courtesy of the Greenzone, what are the most baffling Chris Jones moments in his time in Riderville? (Rod suggests the $75,000 fine for the expanded practice roster in 2016).
- CFL career wins leader Wally Buono joined the show from White Rock, BC donning a mask to support the BC Women’s Health Foundation and EVA (End Violence Against Women) effort. Wally discussed pandemic times in Vancouver, revealed he’s honing his culinary skills in retirement, and answered many questions from viewers. Regarding the current state of the CFL, Wally said it’s tough to gauge “from the outside” but admitted he’s very concerned about the CFL’s future. Buono’s first involvement with the CFL was attending a camp as a teenage player in Montreal in 1967.
- Famed sportscaster Mike Richards of Saugga 960 Radio in Mississauga joined the show to discuss all the show’s topics. He gave an EPIC troll job of Edmonton’s pitch to be a Hub City, gave an impassioned speech on the importance of the CFL and how players need to decide what’s the minimum they’re willing to play for, and much more. Viewers chimed in that Richards was a lock for the Rockstar of the Day but he declined saying no one should ever touch Wally Buono.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 3 of the CFL SIM – SASK at HAM, CGY at WPG or EDM at BC? The whopping leader at press time was Riders/Ticats meaning we’ll have the broadcast of it at 5:00 pm Sask Time Thursday on the RP Show Facebook Live channel.
- The fun continued in Hour 2 as TSN 690 Montreal’s Moe Khan joined the show. He stated there’s massive unrest within the Canadiens fanbase and they feel getting into the 24-team playoff is a flimsy thing to be proud of. Moe feels Cayden Primeau is the future of the Habs in goal, but Carey Price could still win a round or two this summer. Khan also revealed that CFL players he’s spoken with are very upset about the lack of communication with the CFL head office during the pandemic. Moe also feels the NFL will play because there’s so much money at stake and the TV revenue should be able to prop them up for a 2020 season.
- TSN Montreal’s John Lu was next up, explaining he finally got a haircut last week. He discussed the heat on Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin, divulged how he got his start in broadcasting (as an intern at CKY Winnipeg) and revealed that he jams drums on his personal YouTube channel. Being a classic metal enthusiast, John said Iron Maiden is his favourite group.
- Rod and Dupes closed the show by discussing old time CFL rivalries and the barbs back and forth between Wally Buono and the Riders broadcast crew. It drew several comments from viewers.
- You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Wally Buono was leading. Monday’s vote was won by Pat Fiacco by acclimation.
