WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: RAW MIKE RICHARDS AND THE GOOD, BAD & UGLY

Wednesday’s Episode #319 of The RP Show was a lot of laughs and breaking news! Here’s the recap:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Tuesday was a volatile night in sports and RP broke it down into three categories beginning with The Good – Jordan Eberle scores in double OT to give the Islanders a 2-1 win over Tampa and force a Game 6, 2) The Bad – The Blue Jays’ Derek Fisher drops two flyballs in the second inning of a 20-6 loss at the Yankees, 3) The Ugly – The Clippers blow a 3-1 series lead and lose Game 7 to the Nuggets, 4) The social media scorn heaped on Fisher and Kawhi Leonard was too much, 5) Breaking News: The Big10 will play beginning October 24 (Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, etc.), and 6) Will these trigger a Return To Play for Canadian leagues?
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will we see junior hockey in Canada in 2020-21? Yes, No or Junior A but no CHL? The majority of respondents said yes.
  • Mike Richards RAW of Sauga 960 Radio in Mississauga joined the show to discuss Netflix series, the absence of the CFL, the Raptors’ popularity versus the Leafs and Return To Play in Ontario sports leagues. Richards lit a fire when he said Toronto is the worst pro football market in North America and they don’t care about the Argos, and only care about the NFL when it comes to Fantasy. It was a hilarious visit with the Canadian sports broadcasting icon and he teased that he has some big career news in the works which he’ll break on the RP Show.
  • Somehow the conversation veered off to RP’s ill-fated appearance on TSN’s Off The Record in 2008 in which he admittedly “bombed”. Surprisingly many of the viewers were watching that appearance 12 years ago and it created a fun discussion.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by Sportsnet Fantasy Football expert Andy McNamara to preview Week 2 in the NFL and Thursday night’s Battle of Ohio between the Browns and Bengals. McNamara, a staunch Browns fan, isn’t optimistic about Cleveland’s chances of contending in 2020. Andy also offered Fantasy tips to viewers.
  • RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith joined the show to recap Week 1 in the NFL. He feels it’s too early to tell who’ll come out on top of the Tom Brady/Patriots split even though the Bucs lost in Week 1 and the Patriots won with Cam Newton. He’s still bullish on Tampa Bay. Regarding the absence of U-Sports football, the longtime pro scout advised university players to send out film to pro teams and be ready for combines and pro days because their shot hasn’t been blown. Smitty also was overjoyed at the news the Big10 will play in 2020.
  • A good deal of time was spent on who the CFL’s top salesman should be when it returns? The viewers offered Geroy Simon, Pinball Clemons, Warren Moon or Henry Burris but the panel figures the CFL should look outside the box similar to what the Raptors have done with Drake.
