FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: JOHN CHICK’S ALL IN!

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we covered all levels on Episode #321 of The RP Show, Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the recap:

  • Rod and Dupes covered these Quick Six show topics in The Warmup: 1) Alouettes owner Gary Stern says the CFL plans to play in 2021 and can make money even if there’s no fans, 2) The Browns beat the Bengals 35-20 on Thursday Night Football, 3) What’s your must-see NFL game in Week 2? (RP’s is Cowboys/Falcons and Dupes’ is Titans/Jags), 4) The Stanley Cup Final will pit Tampa Bay against Dallas (RP predicts the Lightning will win it, but isn’t entirely confident in that!), 5) Are you following the NBA Playoffs now that the Raptors are out? and 6) Pats phenom Connor Bedard will practice only in Sweden, but not play games.
  • Regarding the comments from the Alouettes owner, John Frenzy was very excited but RP is reluctant to go along with it. The host said if this is simply a continuation of CFL 1.0, he’s not in favour of it. Where’s the new, efficient business model we were promised in this?
  • Riders/Eskimos/Ticats/Jaguars/Colts/Texans alum John Chick joined the show from Jacksonville, FL and reported it’s so humid there right now that he has to change shirts three times before noon! Regarding the Jaguars, although he does alumni events, John said he doesn’t know what’s going on within the locker room. However he feels if there’s a problem with the club causing players to want out, it’s with the “system”. Chick provided a life update saying he’s busy training players and raising his nine kids. Outside of that, he doesn’t have much free time. John Frenzy asked if there’s many CFL alumni or CFL talk around Jacksonville to which Chick responded, “I don’t get out much man! I’m out there working everyday. I’m ALL IN everyday. That’s just me, but that’s always been ME!” John has strong thoughts on Covid controls and said while he’s sympathetic to those who’ve lost loved ones, he still feels citizens should be given the opportunity to live a normal life. The Wyoming product said in Florida, “We haven’t missed a beat”.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question is: Who will have a better pro career – Baker Mayfield or Joe Burrow? Over 70% of respondents voted for Burrow.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined by NFL alum and RP Show Fantasy expert Tori Gurley. The former Browns and Packers wide receiver doesn’t lay the blame for the Cowboys’ Week 1 loss at the feet of head coach Mike McCarthy. He feels Cowboys QB Dak Prescott “doesn’t look comfortable” in the pocket and figures the team is suffering from too many injuries in the linebacking corps. Tori’s bullish on Arizona QB Kyler Murray and has picked him in back-to-back weeks as his Fantasy quarterback.
  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers DE Willie Jefferson was scheduled to appear on the show but a mix-up in time zones nixed the interview. We hope to have him next week!
  • Be sure to tune in for Friday Night Football in CFL SIM as the 10-3 Calgary Stampeders visit the 9-3 Saskatchewan Roughriders at 7:00 pm MT on the RP Show Facebook page.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Tori Gurley was leading. Thursday’s vote was won by Gregg Zaun.
  • See you at 10 am MT on Monday on Game+ TV, Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
