TUESDAY RUNDOWN: NFL WITH ZIG FRACASSI AND RAMS 50/50!

There were was a whole lotta football talk plus hockey rumours on Episode #352 of The RP Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) It’s U.S. Election Day! That’s the extent of how much we’ll talk about it, 2) The Buccaneers held off the Giants 25-23 on Monday Night Football, 3) It’s NFL Trade Deadline Day, 4) Blue Jays skipper Charlie Montoyo is up for AL Manager of the Year, 5) Should Coach of the Year Awards include the playoffs?, and 6) CFL SIM division semifinal playoff betting lines – Toronto at Ottawa and BC at Saskatchewan.
  • U of R Rams head coach Mark McConkey joined the bunker for an extended chat. The first year Rams coach talked about their cancelled season and the fact they’ve worked out for two months (consider it a 2-month training camp). The former Rams QB said there’s talk of a spring season, but nothing concrete. He discussed the play of the five QBs they have in camp, the challenges with recruiting/scouting during the pandemic and his coaching career. “I’d love to be the next Frank McCrystal,” McConkey stated. He also said the Rams brought McCrystal out to talk to the men last Thursday night and it was the first time Frank stepped on the field since leaving the club in 2014.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should Coach of the Year Awards include the playoffs? The results were around 50/50. RP and Dupes debated the topic as part of The Faceoff for Ultimate Fan Zone and the Mad Greek Restaurant.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Game+ TV and we were joined by Sirius/XM NFL Radio’s Zig Fracassi from New York City. Zig was sporting a Roughriders sweatshirt which Rod hand-delivered to him in Manhattan a few years ago. Fracassi took several questions from viewers and explained there isn’t much CFL talk on his channel because there hasn’t been an appetite for it however he’d be open to a CFL feature on the channel hosted by Rod and himself. Regarding the Coach of the Year question, Zig said he’s split on it, just like the viewers. He said the NFL Trade Deadline doesn’t have the pizzazz of the other major leagues because the NFL operates differently. Zig also examined Brady’s Bucs versus Belichick’s Patriots and said right now Tom’s winning but there’s still a long ways to go.
  • The panel dabbled in CFL talk and the hosts said they’ve been trying to get CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie on the show for quite some time but their schedules haven’t lined up. The plan is for Ambrosie to appear on the show this Friday.
  • The Toronto Sun’s Steve Simmons tweeted during the show that he’s hearing the NHL season won’t start until February. The crew discussed this revelation and RP surmised that a lot could change with Covid controls in North American based on results of the U.S. Federal election.
