MONDAY RUNDOWN: DARREN PANG AND RICH SUTTER!

It was a bang-up Episode #365 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – on Monday! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes got it going with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Week 11 NFL Notes – the Cowboys stun the Vikings and Dupes’ Titans ruffle feathers in Baltimore, 2) A wrap up Grey Cup Unite and the CFL SIM Grey Cup, 3) Monday Night Football features the Rams at the Buccaneers, 4) World Junior camp notes, 5) Quiet times in the NHL, and 6) NBA free agency notes: The Raptors sign two and lose two big names.
  • The guys noted that the CFL accomplished a lot of business during Grey Cup Unite Week but now the big question looms: What’s next? Rod and Dupes Faced Off on how, or if, the CFL comes back in 2021. The Face Off is brought to you by Ultimate Fan Zone and The Mad Greek Restaurant.
  • Paul Schiffner – CEO and co-founder of Push Athletic Fitness Technology – joined the show from Toronto to discuss their fitness start-up which offers specialized coaching for over 1,000 athletes. It tracks workouts through a cloud and allows coaches to coach, and track, their athletes through their app.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is more likely – the Steelers going 16-0 or the Jets going 0-16? At press time, over 80% of respondents voted for a winless Jets season.
  • News broke during the show that head coach Dave Lowry is leaving the Brandon Wheat Kings to be an assistant coach with the Winnipeg Jets. RP stated that it’s not great timing for the Wheaties, but it’ll be a coveted job and they’ll fill the void adequately.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and we were joined by NHL Network and St. Louis Blues analyst Darren Pang. The former Chicago Blackhawks goalie discussed joining a rival team as a broadcaster, and examined the tipping point for the Blues to become Stanley Cup champions. He talked about the loss of Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo to the Golden Knights, and reflected on last winter’s Saskatoon Kinsmen Dinner which he MC’d with guests Glenn Hall, Grant Fuhr, Bernie Parent, Ed Belfour and Martin Brodeur. Panger predicted a January 15 start date for the NHL in 2021.
  • 13-year NHL veteran and Columbus Blue Jackets pro scout Rich Sutter will be the RP Show World Juniors analyst and he discussed Team Canada’s camp in Red Deer with 46 players. He feels that this team could be as special as the 2005 Canadian squad in Grand Forks. Sutter went deep into how being in the Edmonton bubble will affect teams, and said he hears the NHL teams will be allowed between 1-3 scouts in attendance at Rogers Place.
