FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN

Fridays are reserved for football on The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – and we tackled the latest CFL and NFL topics on Episode #379! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup for the Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The L.A. Rams rout the New England Patriots 24-3 on Thursday Night Football, 2) Week 14 games including Rod’s Cowboys at Bengals, Dupes’ Titans at Jaguars and Producer Clark’s Falcons at Chargers. The big one is Steelers at Bills, 3) What would you like to see from the CFL when it comes back? (This was opened up to viewers), 4) The Edmonton Football Club team name bracket is down to eight finalists, 5) The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will the Patriots make the playoffs? (Over 70% of respondents said no), and 6) Examining the CFL free agent lists and who should be each team’s priority?
  • Regarding what we’d like to see from the CFL, Rod said an NFL-style injury reporting system which would make it easier to bet on, and cover, the league. John Frenzy said he’d like to see better halftime acts with dancing girls and live bands. Viewers wanted to see a 30-minute pregame show on TSN, innovative broadcasts and more.
  • RP Show NFL Insider Tori Gurley joined the show and discussed the mindset of free agents. “I just wanted to get paid!” Tori exclaimed. The former Packers, Browns and Argos WR stayed for two segments and offered his weekly Tori’s Tips fantasy advice for Wheaton Kia and Fanduel. He also answered questions on the deteriorating relationship between Bruce Arians and Tom Brady in Tampa, predicted the Bills will upset the Steelers on Sunday, and touched on the struggles of the Dallas Cowboys. Regarding the Patriots likely missing the playoffs, Tori said this proves that Bill Belichick and Tom Brady “need each other”.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by BC Lions Co-GM Neil McEvoy from the Lions facility in Surrey, BC. Neil extolled the virtues of the CFL, said Lions fans get a bad rap and invited RP and Frenzy to stroll the concourse at Lions games to get a feel for the fan passion. Regarding Monday’s announcement of Co-GMs, McEvoy said everything in the CFL is done by committee and that titles don’t mean much. He touched on the Mike Reilly situation and said they expect to have the popular QB on the field when training camp opens. He reiterated what a key part of the franchise Reilly is. He also noted that free agent WR Duron Carter will NOT be offered a contract by the Lions. In closing the interview, McEvoy said he was sad to see Rod leave the CFL but feels The RP Show is a key asset to the CFL.
  • News broke near the end of the show that Hockey Canada has named its 25-man roster for the World Juniors tournament in Edmonton and the panel discussed the distinct WHL flavour to the team.
