MONDAY RUNDOWN: FARHAN LALJI JOINS!
We opened a brand new week with Episode #380 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – on Monday! Here’s the rundown:
- Rod and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NFL Week 14 Notes, 2) Monday Night Football has Baltimore at Cleveland, 3) Randy Ambrosie predicts “an okay 2021”. What does that mean?, 4) The Raptors beat the Hornets 111-100 in preseason play Saturday night, 5) The Braden Holtby Saga (see the MMG below for details), and 6) Betting is hard!
- Vancouver filmmaker Pan Yannitsos (originally from Regina) joined the show to discuss his documentary series Uncharted North, profiling Canadian stars in the NFL. His first film is on Minnesota Vikings lineman Brett Jones of Weyburn. You can view the documentary trailer here. Pan talked about Jones’ career, the access granted by the Vikings, where you can view the series (DAZN) and what’s next for them. You can also read up on their exploits at ParkJournal.com.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will be the NFL MVP? Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, Derrick Henry or Josh Allen? At press time, Aaron Rodgers was leading.
- During the show, the Roughriders announced 2-year contract extensions for GM Jeremy O’Day and Head Coach Craig Dickenson, plus the 2021 football operations staff.
- Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by TSN’s Farhan Lalji from Vancouver for an extremely wide-ranging chat. He said the Braden Holtby hubbub isn’t much of a story. Farhan expects the NHL season to get off the ground but admitted it’s odd the NHL insiders have brushed aside the money issues. Regarding the CFL, Farhan wanted to clarify his comments on Edmonton radio regarding the CFL’s future. He’s not predicting there will be capped salaries, but says it’s something the CFL will need to do in order to get through the pandemic pinch. Regarding Ambrosie’s statement of an “okay 2021”, Farhan feels it means the season will kickoff without fans and finances will be lean. He also discussed Oklahoma State RB Chuba Hubbard of Sherwod Park, AB declaring himself early for the NFL Draft, and the reasons why. The rest of the segment was spent with Farhan answering viewers questions. Regarding the naming of the Edmonton Football Club, Farhan said he’s “not fond” of the name Elk.
