WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: HAPPY OPENING DAY!

It was a banner day on Episode #399 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) It’s opening day in the NHL and Rod donned a Montreal Canadiens bunnyhug to troll Leafs fans Darren and Producer Clark! The games are Penguins/Flyers, Canadiens/Maple Leafs, Blackhawks/Lightning, Blues/Avalanche and Canucks/Oilers, 2) This weekend’s NFL Division Playoff point spreads – Rams at Packers (Green Bay by 7), Rams at Bills (Buffalo by 2), Browns at Chiefs (Kansas City by 10) and Buccaneers at Saints (New Orleans by 3), 3) Pat McAfee responds on his State Fair Football comment, referring to the RP Show as “Some guy in Canada”, 4) QB James Franklin re-signs with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and 6) Will there be spring football in Canada West? Dupes thinks there’s a chance.
  • We announced that beginning February 1 the RP Show will air for two hours live daily on Game+ TV Network! With the replay at 4:00 pm ET, that means four hours of the RP Show on national television daily across all 10 provinces and 31 states! It also means for Sask viewers, the show will begin at 11:00 am Sask Time until the March time change when it reverts back to 10 am Sask Time.
  • Colorado Avalanche beat writer Adrian Dater joined the show from Denver for an Avs preview. He explained why Colorado is picked by many as the Stanley Cup favourite (they might’ve won it all last year if not for goaltender injuries in the playoffs), examined the McDavid/MacKinnon best player debate, recapped Avs off-season moves and discussed the storylines going into the Avalanche/Blues series to open the regular season.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: The Stanley Cup champion will come from which divisionScotia, Honda, Discover or MassMutual? At press time, the Scotia North division was leading.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Facebook Live and Game+ TV and after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by Jim Lang, Canada’s foremost expert on the NFL. Based in the Toronto area, Jim was sporting Leafs gear and previewed tonight’s Habs/Leafs game and Toronto’s line combos. The boys then delved into the NFL storylines and this weekend’s games. Jim’s surprised the Saints are favoured over the Bucs since Drew Brees is so beat up. Lang also recapped this past weekend’s huge upsets and gave reasons why the Rams and Browns won. He also went deep into the plight of his favourite team, the Las Vegas Raiders.
  • The final two segments were devoted to the Viewer Takeover segment where we went back-and-forth with viewers on several stories including the rumour that Chris Jones could be out in Cleveland. (RP advised to wait until it actually happens, if true). They also dabbled in the Covid climate, and how it’ll affect Canadian sports leagues in 2021.
  • Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day was TSN’s Rod Black for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. Jim Lang was named Wednesday’s Rockstar.
