MONDAY RUNDOWN: NFL WRAP, CURLING AND GOLDEN KNIGHTS TALK!
We kicked off a brand new week with Episode #402 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – covering a very busy weekend and looking ahead! Here’s the rundown:
- Rod and Dupes got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NFC Playoffs – Tampa Bay and Green Bay advance, 2) AFC Playoffs – Buffalo and Kansas City advance, 3) NHL weekend notes – Leafs are #1 and the Jets are undefeated. The two meet tonight!, 4) Officiating complaints (RP says people only hate the rules when they don’t work out for their team, 5) Government funding for Junior Hockey, and 6) The Bombers’ Adam Bighill takes a huge paycut and the Riders’ Charleston Hughes is facing the same. Should he accept it or take his talents elsewhere?
- We’ve asked viewers which American NHL teams they’d like more coverage of and the Vegas Golden Knights led the way. Therefore we were joined by VGK insider Gary Lawless for an update as the team prepares to host Arizona Monday night. Lawless examined the Lehner/Fleury crowded crease situation but reported Marc-Andre Fleury isn’t for sale. In the first full season under Peter Deboer, Gary reported the team favours an attack-style offense and puck-moving backend. As a longtime CFL insider for TSN, Lawless said he’s following the league closely and said he’s more worried for CFL staffers than he is for the players. He feels the paycuts are to be expected due to Covid, but fears for jobs in the front office and coaching staffs.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question is: Should the Scotia North division continue past this season? At press time, 70% of respondents said no.
- Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ and Facebook Live and we after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by Sportsnet Fantasy Football host and Cleveland Browns podcaster Andy McNamara from Toronto. The former Voice of the Tiger-Cats and current Voice of the Toronto Rock said he really felt an upset was in the making for Cleveland at Kansas City. He feels that everyone is on the same page in Cleveland for the first time in decades and that the future is bright. McNamara recapped the other weekend NFL Division games and also discussed the future of the NLL which is scheduled to begin its 2020-21 season in April.
- Braeden Moskowy of Saskatchewan Brier rep Team Dunstone joined the bunker to discuss Curl Sask’s decision to anoint their team as the mens representative at nationals. They’ve only been in two spiels this fall/winter and haven’t thrown a rock since November so they have plenty of work to do to get ready for the Brier in the Calgary bubble. He sympathized with Curl Sask’s tough decision and applauded their competitors for taking the decision with class.
- Rod and Dupes Faced Off on the future of the Scotia North division. Rod said he initially voted no but is being swayed. If the only reason against it is teams travelling across three time zones, then perhaps it should be looked at more seriously. Dupes initially voted yes to keeping it past this year but is being swayed otherwise. He feels too much of a good thing can indeed be too much.
