TUESDAY RUNDOWN: CHARLESTON HUGHES JOINS!
Tuesday’s Episode #413 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – was hotly-anticipated! Here’s the rundown:
- Rod and Dupes kicked if off with The Warmup for Four Season Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) It’s Groundhog’s Day! (Don’t we always get six more weeks of winter around here?), 2) Monday NHL leftovers – Flames & Habs win, 3) There are 8 games Tuesday including Vancouver/Montreal, Calgary/Winnipeg & Ottawa/Edmonton, 4) The CFL lets go 10 staffers at the head office (Rod said the cost-cutting could actually lead to the CFL playing in 2021), 5) Should the CFL move to the USA for 2021?, and 6) At Super Bowl LV media day Tom Brady said he’d like to play past 45 years of age.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will pass for more yards in Super Bowl 55 – Brady or Mahomes? At press time, 58% of respondents voted for Tom Brady.
- Canada’s foremost NFL expert Jim Lang joined the show from Toronto to preview Sunday’s match-up. He went deep into the challenges facing Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, and predicted Brady will throw for more yards. Lang reflected on the five Super Bowls he’s covered (Steelers/Cardinals in Tampa was the best), and past Super Bowl media days. Regarding playing at age 45 or over, Jim figures if anybody can do it, it’s Tom Brady. He also discussed his beloved Leafs being #1 in the Scotia North Division but admitted there’s lots of hockey to be played yet.
- Regarding the CFL playing out of the USA in 2021, there was tons of reaction from American viewers who said they’d welcome the league in Texas or Central Florida. Viewers agreed that all options need to be explored.
- In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and then were joined by Charleston Hughes and Johann Lozinski from the Better With Age Podcast. Charleston discussed his contract talks with the Riders and here are some of his quotes: “We are just at a crossroads. The team is viewing things one way, I’m viewing things another way and we are stuck at a standstill. The conversations were good at first, we had some real good talks where I thought things were headed in a good direction, but like I said, we are at a crossroads. I don’t know which direction I’m going to head from here.”“When it’s really said and done, I have offers on the table from other teams and I’m at a crossroads where the team really isn’t looking to have me in Saskatchewan.”
“They’re not really looking to match any offer I’ve been given or brought back to the table for the team. It’s a situation where I either have to stay here or leave and that’s really the truth of it.”
- Regarding their podcast, Lozinski said the show’s name was chosen by the viewers and the winning entry came from a Calgary Stampeders fan. He said he’s been surprised by the show’s popularity, and has been pleased by its growth.
- We were later joined by Motivational Speaker, Personal Trainer and LFL/WWE alum Amanda Ruller. She nailed her predictions for the NFL Conference Championship games and is calling for a 37-34 Chiefs win in the Super Bowl. Ruller admitted that she was blogging about the CFL initially, but didn’t find much of an audience. However her NFL columns have been very well-received. She also offered a recap of the WWE’s Royal Rumble and Monday Night Raw.
