TUESDAY RUNDOWN: SUPER WEEK CONTINUES!

We chatted a lot of Super Bowl LV and the latest hockey news on Episode #413 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup for Four Season Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Fred VanVleet sets a Raptors single-game scoring record with 54 points in a 123-108 win over the Magic, 2) Tuesday’s NHL leftovers, 3) Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question: Which tightend will have more receiving yards in Super Bowl 55 – Travis Kelce or Rob Gronkowski? (Over 70% of respondents said Kelce), 4) Would the New England Patriots have won ANY Super Bowls without Tom Brady?, 5) What’s the best team logo in CFL history? (The Argos boat logo seems to be #1), and 6) Junior hockey’s Return To Play plans.
  • RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith joined the show for Super Week analysis presented by Original 16 Ultra Lager. Smitty says the top defense will win the game and he’s picking the Chiefs by 10. He also examined the longevity of Tom Brady and said he could play well past the age of 45. Regarding CFL matters, Craig said he hasn’t really talked to anyone in the league but is praying for a season in 2021.
  • 10-year CFL veteran and Grey Cup champion Mike Abou-Mechrek joined the show from Calgary and brought along a surprise guest, longtime CFL lineman Alex Gauthier who was sitting in the car with him. Abou and the CFL’s “Goat” (that’s his nickname) both went with the Bucs to win.
  • In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and were then joined by Pro Football and Canadian Football Hall of Famer Warren Moon from his home in Seattle. The 5-time Grey Cup champ and 9-time Pro Bowler said he’d normally be at Super Bowl Week taking part in Radio Row and the various parties. He applauded the NFL for getting a season in despite Covid and said they’re one game away from a miraculous accomplishment. Moon is good friends with Patrick Mahomes (they share the same agent, Leigh Steinberg) and he’s calling for a 35-31 Kansas City victory. Moon also answered several questions from fans including the Deshaun Watson situation, his Moons Cookies franchise and the 2021 NFL Draft class.
  • News broke during the show that the NLL is scrapping plans for a 2020-21 season due to Covid and planning for a restart in the fall. Also the Edmonton Football Team has signed defensive end Shawn Lemon.
  • Rod’s Rant for Bronco Plumbing & Heating focused on Patrick Kane’s shootout moves and RP said they should be illegal because he basically stops and gives the goalie no chance. One viewer suggested a shot clock be instituted during shootout attempts.
  • Regarding VanVleet’s record-setting performance, a discussion broke out on the greatest Raptor of all-time and it was a heated back-and-forth debate with viewers. Rod and Dupes feel it’s still Vince Carter.
