WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: THE CFL IS RAGING! (AND THAT’S NOT A BAD THING)

Proving once again we are the Golden Corral of sports talk (we’ve got something for everybody), we covered all the hottest sports news on Episode #422 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Dupes got it going with the The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) With Toronto’s signing of Cam Judge, the CFL is raging today from teams, to players, to fans! (And we think that’s not a bad thing), 2) Will the CFL play in 2021? Rod said they will after receiving a cash infusion from SOMEONE, 3) Spittin’ Chiclets star Paul Bissonnette says the Maple Leafs will win the Stanley Cup, 4) Tuesday’s NHL leftovers (it was a nice break from the Scotia North Division wars), 5) The Raptors beat the Bucks 124-113 but Kyle Lowry was injured, and 6) Insiders say the Edmonton Football Team has chosen the name “Elk”.
  • 2-time Grey Cup champion Shawn Lemon joined the show from Virginia. The Lemonator addressed concerns that the Argos are overspending by saying Toronto simply has a “unique way of structuring contracts”. Regarding his nomadic pro career over eight seasons, Shawn said it’s simply worked out that way but he’s hoping to set down roots in Edmonton where he signed last week as a free agent. He wouldn’t address the name “Elk”, preferring to still refer to the club as the Edmonton Football Team. Regarding the pandemic, Lemon said he’s taken the time for personal improvement and become a better person, father and player.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: With the signing of Cam Judge, are the Argonauts now the Grey Cup favourite? At press time, 60% of respondents said no.
  • In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and were deluged by Argos fans whom are ecstatic over the team’s off-season moves. We were then joined by TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button from Calgary who covered a vast array of topics. He told stories of working with Rod’s Dad for years with the Minnesota/Dallas NHL franchise and explained their scouting system which produced a lot of winning! Surprisingly Button is against the AHL sending underaged players back to the WHL and said he wouldn’t blame them for refusing to report, and renting ice in the USA to skate amongst themselves. He also examined the young crop of NHL blueliners who’ve come from the WHL including Bowen Byram and Ty Smith.
  • Team Manitoba fifth Cathy Overton joined the show from the Scotties Bubble and she marvelled how her father Doug worked with Craig Button and Rod’s Dad for years with the Stars. She promoted this Sunday’s Sandra Schmirler Foundation 20th Anniversary Telethon, and explained Manitoba’s road to get to the Scotties.
  • RP was adorned in the Canada Games brand launch bunnyhug which read “BLOOD, SWEAT & MAPLE SYRUP” celebrating Canadian sport.

How about those aweful shiney team mandated gold bucket lids the Las Vegas Golden Knights are wearing, those particular bucket lids making a total mockery of the NHL and tradition. Got to think this is the precursor to all advertising on all on Ice hockey wear. Revenues have to generate from somewhere.
