FRIDAY RUNDOWN: FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY!

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we tackled all the latest topics in the CFL, NFL, FCFL and more on Episode #436 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup for the Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) CFL icon Chris Schultz passes away due to a heart attack at age 61 (Rod and Schultzie were close friends and the host shared many stories of Schultz’s life, 2) Walter Gretzky passes at age 82 (Rod did several events with Canada’s Hockey Dad and said while health issues affected Walter’s memory, he never lost his kindness, 3) Thursday NHL leftovers including Darryl Sutter taking over the Flames, 4) NFL/CFL notes, 5) The Blue Jays fall 8-2 to Detroit in Grapefruit play, and 6) The Brier begins tonight!
  • ArizonaCardinals.com senior writer Darren Urban joined the show from Glendale, AZ to discuss all the news around the Cards. Urban explained J.J. Watt’s signing and how they’ll deploy the defensive end and reported Watt’s cap hit hasn’t been specified publicly as yet. Regarding the future of back-up QB Chris Streveler, Urban feels his status is very much up in the air but can’t see him retaining his #2 QB position. On the future of franchise icon Larry Fitzgerald, Urban stated Fitzgerald hasn’t confirmed his playing status for 2021 just yet.
  • The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will Darryl Sutter make the Flames a Stanley Cup contender? At press time, results were around 50/50.
  • In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and were joined by 3DownNation CFL insider Justin Dunk. Dunk talked about the massive void in Canadian football being left by Chris Schultz’s passing. Dunk said he’s still not totally confident the CFL will play in 2021 despite the latest pandemic news in Canada but agreed things are moving the right way. Justin also said the door is open for WR Josh Gordon to join the Argos after being released by the Seahawks but for the moment, Gordon will be suiting up in the Fan Controlled Football League.
  • We broke away on Game+ TV at 1:45 pm ET for Swiss League Hockey but stayed on Facebook/YouTube Live until the scheduled 2:00 pm ET. There were several Viewer Takeover segments, and Rod discussed the situation with suspended Ontario Junior A coach Bernie Lynch, the former coach of the Regina Pats.
