Chris Jones could be headed back to school.

In a Facebook post from his personal account, the 4-time Grey Cup champion coach announced he’s thrown his hat into the ring to be the head football coach at his alma matter South Pittsburgh High School in Tennessee.

Resume is in! I have officially applied for the Head Football Coaching position at my Alma mater in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. In my mind I have spent 30 years preparing for this opportunity. If I’m fortunate enough to be chosen, we will hit the ground running! Go Pirates!

Jones could be the beneficiary of great timing. Longtime Pirates head coach Vic Grider announced his retirement last Monday. Grider spent 30 years at South Pitt as a teacher, assistant principal, athletic director and football coach.

Given the fact Jones is alum and most recently finished up a 2-year stint as an assistant coach with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns, you’d have to think his resume will go to the top of the pile.
