TUESDAY RUNDOWN: LEO RAUTINS & MORE!
Tuesday’s Episode #438 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – was fantastic! Read on for the rundown:
- Rod and Dupes led off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Chris Jones going back to school?, 2) Dak Prescott’s 4-year/$160-million contract with the Dallas Cowboys, 3) TSN hands out grades for each team’s free agency (our panel gave the Argos an A+), 4) Monday NHL leftovers, 5) Two unbeaten teams remain at the Brier, and 6) The Raptors finish up the All Star break.
- Toronto Raptors analyst Leo Rautins joined the show from his Toronto home for a wide-ranging visit. He feels there were no Raptors on the NBA All Star teams because they simply haven’t won enough, however he hopes the team continues its hot roll once the break is over. Regarding whether or not the NBA should’ve played an All Star Game in the pandemic, Leo spat that people complained about a lack of sports and now they’re complaining that a league played? He said the NBA has the resources to pull it off so why not? Rautins said he was shook by the passing of Chris Schultz and explained that the pair went into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in the same induction class. He also talked about the flourishing CEBL and how there’s plenty of potential for a pro basketball league in Canada because, “Not everyone who plays basketball in this country is going to make the NBA.”
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will the Cowboys win a Super Bowl with Dak Prescott? At press time over 65% of respondents said no.
- In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and the Second Half Kickoff featured plenty of banter with viewers over tonight’s NHL games, comparisons between the Cowboys and Maple Leafs, and much more.
- Longtime Winnipeg Jets broadcaster Brian Munz joined the show to preview tonight’s Jets/Leafs battle on TSN3 and how it’s a measuring stick for both teams. Munzie believes the Jets could be in the market for a top-flight defenceman in order to become a true Stanley Cup contender. Brian took several questions from viewers.
- Our official betting partner, Come On Canada, posed the Twitter question: Which sports trade would you reverse if given the chance? Rod said it was the Gretzky Trade on August 9, 1988 which drew immense response. Viewers said the trade grew the game in the U.S. Sunbelt but Rod said from an Edmonton perspective, the goal is to win Stanley Cups rather than grow the game. Dupes’ choice was the Maple Leafs trading away Tuuka Rask.
