FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we tackled it all on Episode #446 of Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Thursday NHL leftovers (Hopefully these are the real Oilers), 2) The RP Show NHL Top 5 are – Tampa, Washington, Carolina, Vegas, NY Islanders and the Bottom 5 are Buffalo, Detroit, New Jersey, Ottawa & Anaheim, 3) Sportsnet’s Tim Micallef opines that he loves the CFL but it may be too late to save it, 4) NFL Free Agency notes and the massive new TV deal, and 6) March Madness begins Friday. Dupes, Rod and Producer Clark have entered in Philadelphia’s EnterPrize Sports bracket.
  • Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Frenzy and RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith appeared in Segment 2 to discuss the CFL/XFL collaboration talks. Smitty spent two decades in the CFL and feels although the CFL has always been a highly-respectable unique league, a merger wouldn’t be the worst thing either. He also passed along his condolences on the passing of CFL icon Chris Schultz, and other football related thoughts.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which NFL QB will have the best season in 2021 – Cam Newton, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Carson Wentz or Andy Dalton? At press time, Carson Wentz of the Colts was well out in front.
  • Regarding the CFL/XFL talks, John Frenzy said it’s all great that the Riders are submitting a health plan but he said it’s time to get real and divulge a “money plan”. John said if the CFL goes away he’ll miss it greatly, but understands the challenges the league is facing.
  • In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six in the second half kickoff and had a massive debate with the viewers over the NFL TV deal and how it relates to the CFL, the merits of a merger, and what’s next?
  • Ottawa RedBlacks linebacker Micah Awe watches the show everyday from Galveston, TX and joined the show from the Great State. He said he’s got something to get off his chest and that’s the notion that CFL athletes are inferior to the NFL. The Texas Tech grad offered videos of both him and Saints RB Alvin Kamara doing the 40-yard dash, vertical jump and broad jump, pointing out that his results were as good or better. Regarding CFL/XFL talks, Awe spoke for all CFL players in saying “there has to be something” in terms of a minor pro football league for players to springboard to the NFL. He also promoted his Purple Shift app where athletes can enter their pro day stats to be compared to others in the game of football.
  • The last two show segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and we discussed all of the Quick Six topics with fans from across the continent.

I agree with Frenzy and if he can get over it then anyone can. It is important to note that I am a Football diehard – any football, any league, and division provided it is played properly and at a high level. This means on my shelf although the CFL takes up the most space, there is still plenty of space for the NFL, U-Sports, NCAA and yes the short lived XFL. When the CFL ceased in 2020 it was like losing a limb, but we also had everything else cut off. Eventually everyone else had to make adjustments. The… Read more »
