MONDAY RUNDOWN: J-E-T-S, CFL/XFL AND MORE!

After the busiest sports weekend of the year, we were back at it Monday with Episode #447 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Weekend NHL leftovers (Why do Jets fans want Paul Maurice fired?), 2) Dub Hub – weekend happenings in the East Centre Hub, 3) March Madness, 4) CFL/XFL reflections, 5) Blue Jays’ kryptonite is the Yankees and the Raptors have dropped eight in a row, and 6) Kirk Muyres and Laura Walker are rolling at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship in Calgary.
  • Sportsnet’s Sean Reynolds and Ken Wiebe from the Kenny & Renny Show joined from the Manitoba capital and explained the angst over Paul Maurice. They both revealed that Winnipeggers demand perfection from the Jets prompting Rod to quip, “Then they’re not any different from Oiler or Rider fans.” The panelists discussed what Winnipeg will likely do ahead of the trade deadline and RP asked for a prediction on who will lock down the 4th and final playoff spot in the Scotia North Division? Reynolds picked Calgary while Wiebe chose Montreal.
  • An amusing occurrence happened during the show. The hosts discovered that YouTube viewers can pay to have their comments “SUPER-CHATTED” meaning they’ll jump to the top of the queue and be mentioned by Rod. Viewer John Burns from Calgary was $45 in by the end of the show. RP said we are now the “OnlyFans of Sports Talk” and doesn’t feel dirty about it.
  • In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six show topics and in the Second Half kickoff we delved further in CFL/XFL talks and what it means for both sides. We also further examined the plight of the Jets and previewed Monday night’s NHL games.
  • Longtime LeafsTV host Paul Hendrick joined the show from Toronto and Rod turned the interview over to Dupes since he’s the staunch Leafs fan in the house. Henny said this is the strongest Leafs team he’s ever covered and predicts they’ll keep the pedal to the metal the rest of the way. He credited coach Sheldon Keefe for getting his players to buy into the defensive system that Mike Babcock never could. Paul also laughed at John Scott’s criticism that Toronto plays in a weak division and said the 6’8″ NHL alum is just trying to be controversial.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will win first – Houston Rockets (20 straight losses) or Buffalo Sabres (13 straight losses)? At press time, 59% of respondents voted for the Sabres.
  • Monday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook page, you can catch the replay at 4:00 pm on Game+, listen to the podcast by clicking on the CONTENT tab at the top of this page, or listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.

The North Division is a Gladiator school so the team that makes it out of there can take on anybody. The East is incredible strong, but they are in full on playoff mode. A very good team is not going to make the playoffs and by season’s end I predict they will all just have beaten the snot of each other so nothing is left. As a Maple Leaf fan my only worry is playing Winnipeg. They are so strong and balanced, and arguably have the best Goalie. Winnipeg is wise to just leave Paul Maurice alone along with quit… Read more »
