MONDAY RUNDOWN: NHL TRADE DEADLINE, AND YERRRRRR!

We came in hot to open a brand new week with Episode #461 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – on Monday! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL trade deadline deals so far, 2) Weekend NHL leftovers (Ryan Reaves’ hit was clean!), 3) CFL 2021 season stuff – Rod’s identified three big hurdles for the CFL to get onto the field, 4) James Franklin retires from the CFL and goes out guns a’blazing. Rod questions, “Who hurt you?”, 5) Masters Sunday, and 6) Blue Jays/Yankees tonight and the post-Connor Bedard Era begins for the Regina Pats.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will have a bigger impact with his new team – Taylor Hall/Bruins or Nick Foligno/Leafs? At press time, Taylor Hall was leading.
  • Sportsnet Flames host Ryan Leslie joined the show from his set at the Saddledome to discuss NHL deadline moves. He feels Foligno will fare better in Toronto than Hall will in Boston, but admitted to being a Leafs supporter. Regarding Calgary’s trade of David Rittich to the Leafs, Leslie said you could see it coming since the goalie’s on an expiring deal. Ryan also examined other potential moves including Ryan Getzlaf leaving Anaheim, and feels most of Calgary’s moves will be made this summer.
  • We had a hilarious moment where Rod said he doesn’t know what the GIF “YERRRRRR!” means with the XFL Markcast guys, but loves it and uses it regularly! Dupes did an Urban Dictionary search and reported it’s a Bronx term meaning, “The cops are coming. Scram!” The XFL guys were watching and promptly turned the segment into a GIF featuring Rod yelling the phrase.
  • In Hour 2’s Second Half Kickoff, the guys delved more deeply into the CFL situation including the breaking news that the League is in talks with Ottawa regarding Federal funding. The hosts and viewers debated the career of James Franklin and a lot of fans felt the Missouri product didn’t shine when given an opportunity. Rod said they’ve extended an invitation to James to come on the show and explain how he feels about his time in the CFL.
  • Elite Prospects/USA Hockey writer Julie Robynheimer joined the show from New Jersey, and she celebrated the Frozen Four championship of her alma mater, the University of Massachusetts. She also examined the Palmeiri/Zajac trade with the Devils & Islanders, and explained how and why the bottom fell out of the Philadelphia Flyers season. (She never was a big believer in Philly’s roster).
