FRIDAY COMMENTARY – THE MEN FROM THE BOYS

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

A COUPLE OF THOUGHTS ON THIS RAINY FRIDAY IN THE WHEAT PROVINCE …

IF THERE WAS EVER A CASE OF NOT COUNTING YOUR CHICKENS BEFORE THEY’RE HATCHED!

AFTER THE VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS FELL DOWN O-2 IN THEIR SECOND ROUND SERIES WITH COLORADO, TWO THINGS HAPPENED:

  • KNIGHTS DEFENCEMAN ALEX PIETRANGELO  GUARANTEED TEAM OWNER BILL FOLEY THAT THEY’D WIN THE NEXT FOUR STRAIGHT. AND …
  • PEOPLE WHOM I HAD A BET WITH ON THE SERIES WERE ASKING ME TO PAY UP.

WELL LO AND BEHOLD, VEGAS DID LIVE UP TO PETRO’S GUARANTEE AND HE SCORED THE WINNER IN A 6-3 SERIES-CLINCHING VICTORY AT T-MOBILE ARENA THURSDAY NIGHT.

IT SURE FEELS GOOD TO NOT GIVE UP ON YOUR TEAM DOESN’T IT?

THE DEFINITION OF FAITH IS TO HAVE BELIEF IN SOMETHING WITHOUT ANY PROOF THAT IT’S THERE.

BUT I DON’T NEED TO TELL YOU THAT.

MEANWHILE IN CANADA, THURSDAY’S NEWS THAT CFL PLAYERS HAVE AGREED TO AN AMENDED CBA WITH OWNERS FOR A 2021 SEASON HAS BEEN VIEWED AS A POSITIVE SIGN, AND A MAJOR HURDLE CLEARED TO GET BACK ONTO THE FIELD.

BUT I DON’T FEEL IT WAS A HURDLE AT ALL. SOME COACHES TOLD ME THEY DIDN’T THINK THE PLAYERS WOULD AGREE TO THE CONCESSIONS, BUT I DISAGREED AND WAS SURPRISED THE COACHES WOULDN’T KNOW THAT.

HOWEVER THEY SAID THE PLAYERS TELL ME THINGS THEY WON’T TELL THEIR COACHES. HOW BOUT THAT?

BUT I KNEW THE PLAYERS WOULD PLAY AT ALL COSTS, ALMOST FOR FREE IN SOME CASES, BECAUSE THEY JUST WANT TO RESUME THEIR CAREERS.

SO IT WASN’T A BIG HURDLE. BUT MONDAY WILL TELL THE TALE. THAT’S WHEN THE CFL GOVERNORS WILL VOTE ON PLAYING, AND WE’LL SEPARATE THE MEN FROM THE BOYS.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

Wonder ???? if the League is still asking the Federal Gov’t for money behind the scenes to start up and a season still contingent on that moving forward. Hopefully there will be league news straight away on Monday.

I know what it’s like to stick with teams.

I’ve given the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Maple Leafs more chances than I did an ex wife:)

I’ve been a fan of both teams since 1967 and I’m proud of the fact the odd thing is I was born in 1974.

I’m with the Roughriders/Maple Leafs right to the box.

Have a great weekend everybody.
