MONDAY RUNDOWN: CFL CAMPS, HR DERBY, NHL, CEBL & MORE!

We cracked the lid on a brand new week with Episode #525 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – on Monday! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The MLB Homerun Derby goes Monday night!, 2) CFL training camps are open. What have we learned??, 3) WR Martavis Bryant is suspended due to passport issues, 4) 3DownNation reports some teams are denying wage subsidies for some players, 5) McGregor/Poirier and UFC 264, and 6) Italy wins the Euro 2020 title 3-2 over England.
  • TSN NHL Insider Darren Dreger joined the show from Toronto for a wide-ranging chat. He didn’t like the Euro 2020 championship to be decided by penalty kicks but he’s happy with the NHL’s 3-on-3 format for OT. He explained there were detractors for that “gimmick” too. Dregs previewed the Seattle Kraken expansion draft and said he’s had no inside looks at protected lists because they’ll change plenty by the end of the week. Dreger said NHL GMs learned by being “fleeced” by Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon in the last expansion draft but they won’t let that happen again. When put on the spot, he predicted goaltender Freddy Anderson will end up with the Kraken. The Langenburg, SK product detailed all the goings-on with the NHL at the moment and explained that his family purchased a cabin/cottage (or “cabbage” as he called it) at Lake-of-the-Prairies in Manitoba and will be heading there for all of August. Dregs also told a funny story of spotting RP and Dupes outside Bell Centre in Montreal last week but resisted shouting out their names! “That would be too Saskatchewan of a thing,” Dreger laughed.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will you be watching the Homerun Derby? At press time over 70% of respondents said no.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for the Four Seasons Sports Palace the guys veered off in a discussion about retired numbers and Rod said all teams should “unretire” the numbers but still honour players prominently in the arenas and stadiums. Hall of Fame Roughriders equipment manager Norm Fong was watching, and agreed with this position. The guys also discussed the best All Star formats in sports, and what’s better – the Homerun Derby or NBA Slam Dunk contest?
  • Saskatchewan Rattlers CEBL President & CEO Brad Kraft joined the show in advance of Monday night’s Sask/Edmonton game at SaskTel Centre where the Rattlers will be the first Sask team to play before fans since the pandemic started. He explained all that’s gone into this historic night. Kraft also discussed the Rattlers’ 0-6 start, the coaching change with Connor Dow taking over for Chad Jacobson, and much more!
  • News broke during the show that Winnipeg Blue Bombers star Andrew Harris left Day 3 of training camp and that head coach Mike O’Shea explained the 2019 Grey Cup MVP had an appointment. The hosts and viewers debated what the appointment may be and it ranged from a hair appointment, dentist, mani/pedi, lunch reservations and a myriad of other things! But the guys were also respectful of Harris, praying that he’s not injured. Dupes said the appointment explanation is “coach speak”.
  • News also broke during the show that Mitch Love has resigned as head coach of the Saskatoon Blades take over the AHL’s Stockton Heat. The guys wished him well and immediately looked at replacements, including former MJ Warriors head coach Tim Hunter.
  • Monday’s show is available for viewing now on our YouTube/Facebook pages, you can catch the replay at 4:00 pm ET on Game+ TV, listen to the podcast by clicking on the CONTENT tab at the top of this page or listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.

Hi from Calgary.
Bo & company are going to destroy the lowly Saskatchewan Roughriders. It’s going to be so hurtful that riderville will never recover. That hick fanbase full of losers.
