MONDAY RUNDOWN: SEATTLE EXPANSION TALK, CFL & MORE!

We had the latest sports buzz and recapped a fantastic weekend on Episode #530 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – on Monday! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL teams reveal their protected lists for Wednesday’s Seattle Kraken expansion draft, 2) CFL news – The Als release K Tyler Crapigna, Hamilton C Mike Filer retires and is the preseason overrated?, 3) The Blue Jays are rolling and make history with doubleheader shutouts of the Rangers, 4) CEBL stuff – The Rattlers are 0-8 and Ottawa will host 2022 championship weekend, 5) Canada’s Olympic flag bearers will be Miranda Ayim and Nathan Kirayama, and 6) Milwaukee’s up 3-2 over Phoenix in the NBA Finals.
  • Viewers latched onto the Seattle expansion draft talk and a major theme through the show was who the Kraken will select on Wednesday night. Rod feels there’s no way they’ll take Carey Price at $10.5-million/year while Dupes isn’t so sure. The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should the Kraken select Carey Price? At press time, around 70% of respondents said yes.
  • CFLPA Executive Director Brian Ramsey and President Solomon Elimimian joined the show for an informal State of the Union. They’re both concerned with the rash of Achilles injuries and Ramsey said it’s not a freak thing, noting that it’s not happening with all teams. He said the matter continues to be investigated. Elimimian revealed that he never considered coming out of retirement despite injuries across the league at the linebacker position. Ramsey also talked about the current mood of players in CFL training camps and that they’re working on the CBA for next season.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for the Four Seasons Sports Palace, we kept the expansion draft talk going with viewers across the continent, and debated if players should be miffed they weren’t protected.
  • Next up was Vancouver broadcaster Matt Sekeres from Sekeres & Price. He doesn’t think Seattle will select Carey Price but feels they WILL take goaltender Braden Holtby from the Canucks. Matt went over the Canucks roster, and gave his musings on BC Lions training camp in Kamloops. Sekeres has long been a staunch CFL fan, growing up in Ottawa.
