FRIDAY COMMENTARY – R-E-L-I-E-F
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)
THIS IS AN ABSOLUTELY MIND-BOGGLING TIME IN SPORTS.
AT THE TOP OF MY LIST ARE THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS WHO’VE GOT THE WHOLE COUNTRY EXCITED WITH THEIR EIGHT GAME WIN STREAK, INCLUDING THURSDAY’S 6-4 WIN OVER THE YANKEES.
IT’S THEIR FIRST FOUR GAME SWEEP OF NEW YORK SINCE 2003! AND THIS PLUCKY BUNCH IS THE FIRST TEAM TO GO INTO NEW YORK – EVER – AND SWEEP FOUR OF THE YANKEES WITHOUT EVER TRAILING IN A GAME.
THE JAYS ARE NOW A HALF GAME OUT OF A WILDCARD PLAYOFF BERTH AND WHILE THERE’S STILL PLENTY OF GAMES LEFT, THEY OPEN A WEEKEND SET TONIGHT AGAINST THE BALTIMORE ORIOLES; A TEAM SO BAD THAT THEY’RE THE ONLY TEAM ALREADY ELIMINATED FROM THE PLAYOFFS IN THE A-L.
MEANWHILE ANYONE WHO SAYS THE NFL IS BORING DIDN’T WATCH LAST NIGHT’S SEASON-OPENING GAME IN TAMPA, WHERE TOM BRADY LED THE BUCCANEERS ON A GAME-WINNING SCORING DRIVE IN THE FINAL MINUTE OF A 31-29 WIN OVER THE DALLAS COWBOYS.
IT WAS A DEVASTATING LOSS FOR THE ‘BOYS BUT HONESTLY, WASN’T A BAD SHOWING ON THE ROAD AGAINST THE BEST TEAM IN THE NFL.
ADDITIONALLY, THOUSANDS OF RIDER PRIDERS ARE MAKING THEIR WAY TO MANITOBA FOR SATURDAY’S BANJO BOWL, WHICH WAS ANNOUNCED AS A SELLOUT EARLIER THIS WEEK BY THE BLUE BOMBERS.
THE RIDERS ARE LOOKING FOR REVENGE AFTER FALLING 23-8 TO WINNIPEG IN THE LABOUR DAY CLASSIC AND THE BETREGAL.NET SPREAD HAS SHIFTED A LITTLE BIT, TO MAKE THE BOMBERS 1-POINT FAVOURITES.
THAT’S A LOT OF RESPECT FOR THE RIDERS, WHO OBVIOUSLY HAVE A VERY GOOD CHANCE OF WINNING. WINNIPEG IS 9-7 IN THE S0-NAMED “BANJO BOWL”, WHICH IS BROUGHT UP AS BEING OFFENSIVE EVERY YEAR AT THIS TIME, BUT NEVER CHANGES.
I DON’T THINK YOU’LL EVER GET ME INTO WATCHING TENNIS BUT IT’S FUN TO WATCH CANADA WAKE UP TO WHAT’S GOING ON AT THE U.S. OPEN WITH A CANADIAN FEMALE GOING TO THE FINAL AND A CANADIAN MALE CLOSE TO DOING THE SAME IN HIS BRACKET. WHO KNEW CANADA WAS A TENNIS SUPER POWER?
ALL OF THIS IS GOING ON AND FOR THE MOST PART, HOCKEY HASN’T EVEN STARTED YET.
I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT ALL THIS ACTION HAS MADE ME FORGET ABOUT COVID AND POLITICS.
WHAT A RELIEF.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY
Man Dallas played good, they had the that game in hand when they went up 29-28, but then old Tom did his thing and got the TB kick team in range for the win.
Ok (Ok) Blue Jays (Blue Jays)
Lets (Let’s) Play (Play) Ball (Ball)
A.C. Leonard suspended 2 games by the CFL for violating league’s drug policy. Hmmm, seems that organization doesn’t have a handle on theccoming and goings of extra curricular activities. Hey … aren’t CFL teams suppose to be under strict scrutiny during Covid times?
What a weekend for upcoming football games. CFL/NCAA/NFL. A gold mine. The Riders win or lose are going to be fine. Edmonton, and Calgary are not even in our class so all we need to do is just continue to develop and get everyone healthy. We will get that home playoff game and does anyone think Zach Collaros is going to stay healthy? He goes down that’s their season. NFL is 3rd on my football radar, but I watch it and know that game inside and out. I’m not even sure what there is to write or say about Tom… Read more »
