Monday Sports: Mustangs Fall In Centennial Cup Final

CENTENNIAL CUP in Oakville, ON

Noah Pak made 23 saves for the shutout, Jack Silverman scored the game’s only goal and the Collingwood Blues blanked the Melfort Mustangs 1-0 to win the 2024 Centennial Cup for the first time ever, Sunday in Oakville, ON completing 10 days of competition for the National Junior A Hockey Championship. 

 

STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS (Round 2)

The Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks have the NHL playoff spotlight all to themselves Monday night. The Canucks host the Oilers in Game 7 of their second-round series. The winner advances to the Western Conference final to face the Dallas Stars, while the loser is eliminated. The Canucks will play without forward Brock Boeser, who reportedly has a non life-threatening blood-clotting issue.

 

 

MLB

The Toronto Blue Jays open a three-game series today against the visiting Chicago White Sox. Right-hander Jose Berrios will be on the mound for the Jays, while right-hander Erick Fedde will pitch for the White Sox. The 20-and-25 Jays are last in the five-team A-L East, while the 14-and-33 White Sox are last in the five-team A-L Central.

 

NBA

The NBA is down to the final four. The top-seeded Boston Celtics will host the sixth-seeded Indiana Pacers Tuesday in the opening game of the Eastern Conference final, while the third-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves will host the fifth-seeded Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday in the opening game of the Western Conference final. Both playoff matchups are best-of-seven series.

 

CEBL

The 10-team Canadian Elite Basketball League tips off a new season Tuesday with the Edmonton Stingers visiting the Calgary Surge. The Winnipeg Sea Bears visit the Saskatchewan Rattlers on Wednesday, and the Vancouver Bandits host the Montreal Alliance on Thursday. The Scarborough Shooting Stars are the defending champions.

GOLF

  • Xander Schauffele has won his first major with a thrilling win today at the PGA Championship. Schauffele made a six-foot birdie putt on the final hole at Valhalla for a one-shot victory over Bryson DeChambeau. And Schauffele set a major championship scoring record in the process. He finished at 21-under 263, breaking by one shot the major record.
  • Nelly Korda won a back nine showdown with Hannah Green of Australia with a par on the 18th hole to capture the Mizuho Americas Open by a stroke today for her sixth win in seven starts on the LPGA Tour this year. The victory made the 25-year-old Korda the first player since Inbee Park in 2013 to record six wins in a single season.
