BIG, BIG TROUBLE FOR THE CFL

Who knows if definitive word on the 2020 CFL season will come down on Friday but Sportsnet Insider Arash Madani has revealed some extremely harsh news via Twitter which may affect that decision. And perhaps even speed it up.

“Per CFL sources: The Toronto Argonauts are one of the franchises quite clear that they do not want to play the modified 2020 season,” Arash Tweeted. “In addition to the cost (and financial loss) being a central issue, they’re not on-board with the logistics involved in the bubble plan.

“Further to this, sources tell me the Argos aren’t alone in not wanting to play a shortened 2020 CFL season with the bubble format. There were multiple teams not interested months ago and that’s still the case. The three community-run organizations definitely want it to go.”

So we have to ask how the CFL could reasonably expect to stage a 2020 season when the teams are split down the middle on even wanting to play? Secondly, how does this look to the Federal government that the CFL has spent weeks and months trying to secure funding to play when all-the-while over half the league doesn’t even want to play?

Further to that, with the Roughriders saying they’ll be out of money by the end of September if they receive no financial aid – and the Federal government reportedly saying they’ll only provide funding IF the CFL plays in 2020 – the outlook has turned decidedly grim.

We’ll discuss on Friday’s The Rod Pedersen Show at 10 am MT on Game+ TV Network, Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.
