CFL SIM: BC 16 OTTAWA 11

VANCOUVER – The virtual BC Lions have strung together back-to-back wins following a 16-11 victory over the Ottawa RedBlacks in Week 6 of the 2020 CFL SIM season.

In a computer-simulated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, the Lions were back home at BC Place after upsetting the Roughriders in Saskatchewan in Week 5. The RedBlacks were still looking for their first victory under virtual new head coach Paul LaPolice and quarterback Nick Arbuckle.

Both teams had a feeling-out process in a scoreless first quarter before BC kicker Sergio Castillo hit a pair of field goals and Ottawa’s Lewis Ward countered with one of his own for a 6-3 Lions lead at halftime.

BC pivot Mike Reilly opened the second half with an 85-yard touchdown bomb to Dominique Rhymes to open up a 13-3 lead, however he was torched by a Pick 6 from Ottawa safety Antoine Pruneau. A successful 2-point conversion made the score 13-11 for the Lions entering the fourth quarter.

Arbuckle led the RedBlacks on a pair of long drives however they turned it over twice in the redzone. A Castillo field goal with 2:30 remaining put the Lions up 16-11 and they would not relinquish the lead. Arbuckle once again led the RedBlacks deep in the final moments before time ran out on a comeback.

Mike Reilly finished the game with 391 yards passing with one touchdown and one interception while Arbuckle’s line was 315 yards passing, one touchdown and one pick.

With the win the Lions improved to 2-3 while the RedBlacks remained winless at 0-4.

The Lions visit Winnipeg (1-3) on Thursday Night Football to open Week 6 while the RedBlacks host Hamilton (1-3) on Saturday, July 18.
