CFL SIM: WINNIPEG 24 MONTREAL 20

WINNIPEG – The Grey Cup hangover is over! The virtual Winnipeg Blue Bombers broke into the win column with a 24-20 win over Montreal in Week 5 of the 2020 CFL SIM schedule.

In a computer-simulated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, Alouettes QB Vernon Adams Jr. opened the contest with a 65-yard drive which was capped off by a Tyler Crapigna field goal. Als linebacker Henoc Muamba picked off Bomber QB Zach Collaros on Winnipeg’s first series which led to another Crapigna field goal and an early 6-0 Alouettes lead.

However Winnipeg’s Brandon Alexander got his first of two interceptions on the day late in the first quarter, setting up a 20-yard Kenny Lawler touchdown reception from Collaros to give the Bombers a 7-6 lead after the opening 15 minutes.

Vernon Adams shot the lights out in the second quarter, connecting with Naaman Roosevelt on a 74-yard TD reception. On the next series James Wilder Jr. scored on a 1-yard screen pass to give Montreal a 20-10 lead at the break.

However Willie Jefferson and the Bomber defense shutout Montreal over the second half while the offense exploded for 14 points in an eventual 24-20 victory. Justin Medlock kicked a game-winning field goal in the waning moments.

Collaros finished the game with 349 yards passing, two touchdowns and an interception while Vernon Adams threw for 284, two TDs and one pick.

The Bombers improved to 1-3 while the Alouettes dropped to 1-3.

Winnipeg hosts the BC Lions on Thursday, July 16 in Week 6 while Montreal hosts Calgary on Friday, July 17.
