Commentary: October Madness

It’s Random Thoughts Day, because that’s all anyone has the attention span for these days …

#1 – It was a great opening day of the Major League Baseball playoffs! The Tigers, Cubs, Red Sox and Dodgers all won on a day that featured 12 hours of baseball. Get ready of more of the same today, only now one or more of these series could end.

The wildcard round has a “March Madness” sort of feel to it.

#2 – Fall is for football. It’s a full-time job staying on top of it all but I think we’re all keenly watching Friday’s Riders-RedBlacks game in Ottawa. Sask is out to avoid a 3-game losing streak while Ottawa needs a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

And I have no idea what the Riders are going to do with their kicking situation at the most critical time of year. Nervous times in the Wheat Province!

#3 – Did you know today is CFL Trade Deadline Day?

#4 – We are hurtling towards Week 5 in the NFL. The league’s Game Notes will have us know that 18 games have been decided in the final three minutes which is the most in 42 years, and tied with 1983 for the most in NFL history. And the 3,624 kickoff return yards amassed last week is the most in a single week in NFL history.

Hey – their rule change on kickoffs worked!

And there was barely any uproar.

And #5 – I was on a sports talkshow in Michigan last night and they asked for a Stanley Cup Final prediction. To be honest, I hadn’t thought that far ahead! (One day at a time, don’t ya know). After less than two minutes of thought, Carolina and Winnipeg popped into my head.

Does that make me crazy?
