FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN

Fridays are reserved for football on The Rod Pedersen Show and we tackled all the latest hot topics on Episode #355! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The CFL tweaks its 2020 draft process, 2) Blue Bombers star Andrew Harris isn’t hopeful for a 2021 CFL season, 3) The USA Today’s Power Rankings have the Steelers, Chiefs and Seahawks as the Top 3 and the Cowboys, Jaguars and Jets as the Bottom 3, 4) Thursday Night Football saw the Packers rout the 49ers 34-17, 5) It’s opening night in the SJHL regular season!, and 6) The CFL SIM Division Semifinals will be broadcast in a doubleheader on the RP Show Facebook page Saturday at 5:00 pm ET with Toronto at Ottawa followed by BC at Saskatchewan. **Bonus topics were the Edmonton football club close to unveiling its new name and NBA players voting in favour of a 72-game season beginning December 22.
  • RP Show NFL Insider Tori Gurley joined the show from Toronto for his weekly Tori’s Tips fantasy advice for Wheaton Kia. He went on to answer several questions from viewers and John Frenzy, and also discussed the similarities between AT&T Stadium and Mosaic Stadium. He said visiting teams always get up for road games against the Cowboys and Roughriders because they know the entire country will be watching!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will the CFL play in 2021 – Yes, No or Undecided? At press time, the majority of respondents said yes.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast nationally on Game+ TV and we were joined by The Spring League assistant coach Drew Tate. The 2-time Grey Cup champion and vet of the Roughriders, Stampeders and RedBlacks joined the show from the San Antonio bubble. He discussed the play of his 1-1 Alphas, and how much fun he’s having coaching along with other CFL personalities like Jeff Reinebold, Marcel Bellefeuille, June Jones and Jerry Glanville. He admitted the calibre play isn’t up to the standard of the CFL but explained it’s almost exclusively rookies right out of college. So far the league’s best player by a long shot is former Argo QB McLead Bethel-Thompson. “If you can play QB in the CFL, you can play in any league,” Tate offered. Drew answered many questions about The Spring League from viewers and explained as much as he knows about the league (established in 2017 as a single-entity ownership). Rod’s watched the games and observed that Drew is having far more fun coaching than he ever did playing, and Tate said that’s a fact.
  • The hottest-button issue on the show somehow evolved into the Eskimo name change and it created a heated back-and-forth with the panel and viewers.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. Thursday’s vote was won by Dave Hodge.
