FOOTBALL FRIDAY RECAP: JIM POPP & CAMERON JUDGE JOIN!

Friday was a big football day so we went with that on Episode 202 of The Rod Pedersen Show, with some hockey sprinkled in! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Elite Eight show topics: 1) Roger Goodell declares the NFL Draft will go ahead April 23-25, 2) The CFL Draft has been conducted remotely for close to 30 years, 3) The NHL Draft is a fluid situation, 4) Still waiting on Bo Levi to accept Rod’s CFL Foot Bounce Challenge, 5) Craig Dickenson questioning Duron Carter’s love for football, and D.C.’s response, 6) Edmonton is now #2 behind Regina for RP Show viewership, 7) Rod had a dream about the Warriors trouncing the Pats 8-1 in Game 2 of a first round WHL playoff series, and 8) Tom Brady applying for a trademark on TBxTB.
  • 5-time Grey Cup champion Jim Popp joined the show from his home in North Carolina and covered a wide variety of topics. He reported that his family is safe and is observing Social Distancing and Safety procedures around the pandemic. He said he’s been doing some consulting in football, including the XFL, as he plans for his next full-time role. Jim said he feels the CFL Draft should go ahead as scheduled (they’ve been doing it remotely for years) and that fans need to keep the CFL front-of-mind in these times. He envisions a shortened CFL season, if there’s one at all. Popp also discussed the new book The Baltimore Stallions, A Brief, Brilliant History and how glad he is author Ron Snyder followed through on a wonderful project that’s been in the works for years.
  • RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith appeared from his home via video chat and took questions from viewers. He gave his thoughts on conducting the CFL Draft, examined the importance of Combines, said Kory Sheets is one of his most prized findings as a scout in the CFL, and much more.
  • Roughriders linebacker Cameron Judge joined the show from his home in LA. He discussed his two free agent workouts with the Chargers and Jaguars, and what led to him signing a new, lucrative deal with Saskatchewan. He said he’s glad the Riders stuck with him through injuries early in his career after being a #2 overall pick. Cam said he’s basically self-isolating and staying in the best shape he can as he awaits word on training camp and the season.
  • Regina Pats GM John Paddock joined the show from the Pats office to discuss his team winning the WHL Draft Lottery this week, the moves he made to put them in position to pick #1, and what Exceptional Player Connor Bedard will mean to the franchise over the next several years.
  • The guys had fun debating the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question about which league will be hurt the most by the Coronavirus. They agreed that it goes without saying that it’s the CFL so since Twitter only allows four options, they went with the NHL, NFL, NBA and MLB. Voters voted overwhelmingly in favour of the NHL.
  • With society binge-watching Netflix and the show Tiger King becoming all-the-rage, Rod and Dupes offered a review of the newly popular Netflix series. Rod laughed “I know at least five guys just like Joe Exotic!”
