MONDAY COMMENTARY – “THROW IT ALL ON ME”

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

THE CLOCK IS TICKING.

IF MY MATH IS CORRECT, THE SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS WILL OPEN TRAINING CAMP IN 21 DAYS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN.

YOU ARE PROBABLY GOING ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS, LARGELY UNAWARE OF THE COUNTDOWN. HOWEVER YOU CAN BET THE RIDERS ARE PUTTING IN LONG HOURS GETTING READY FOR THE TREK NORTHWARD TO SASKATOON.

THE SAME GOES FOR MY FAVOURITE CFL PLAYER, RIDER QUARTERBACK CODY FAJARDO, I WOULD THINK.

I’VE BEEN CLOSE FRIENDS WITH ALMOST ALL OF THE RIDER QUARTERBACKS OVER THE YEARS, INCLUDING HENRY BURRIS, NEALON GREENE, MARCUS CRANDELL, KERRY JOSEPH, DARIAN DURANT, KEVIN GLENN, BRANDON BRIDGE AND ZACH COLLAROS AND THEY ALL PREPARED FOR THE SEASON IN DIFFERENT WAYS.

IT’S A PRESSURE-PACKED POSITION BUT FEW FACED THE TYPE OF EXPECTATIONS FAJARDO DOES THIS YEAR. SASKATCHEWAN IS POISED TO HOST THE GREY CUP IN NOVEMBER AND ONLY TWICE BEFORE, IN MY TIME, WAS THAT THE CASE. THAT WAS IN 2003 AND 2013.

NEALON GREENE & KEVIN GLENN COULDN’T GET IT DONE, BUT DARIAN DURANT DID.

ADDING TO FAJARDO’S PRESSURE IS THE FACT HE’S THE HIGHEST-PAID ROUGHRIDER OF ALL TIME.

IN AN INTERVIEW ON REGINA RADIO LAST WEEK, CODY SAID “THROW IT ALL ON ME”, REGARDING THE PRESSURE THE TEAM IS FACING IN 2022.

DON’T WORRY CODY; THE FANS ALREADY ARE.

IT SAYS IN THE BIBLE “TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN, MUCH IS REQUIRED.” (LUKE 12:48)

CODY IS A MAN OF GOD BUT HE HAS A DIFFERENT VERSE TATTOOED ON HIS RIGHT WRIST. IT’S JAMES 4:10. LOOK UP WHAT IT MEANS, IF YOU DON’T ALREADY KNOW.

I THINK HE’S APPROACHING IT THE RIGHT WAY. CODY’S A “HEART ON YOUR SLEEVE” KIND OF GUY, AND ALL THE BEST ONES ARE.

BUT THERE’S NEVER BEEN ONE MAN WHO’S WON A GREY CUP ON HIS OWN.

I am partial to 1 Corinthians 1-17:…..when I was a child I thought, acted, and reasoned as a child. When I became a man. I put away childish things.

Unless he has a degree in heumantics my suggestion is to quit cherry picking verses that are spread out over a thousand years and not seen in proper context.

2022 is time to stop talking for him and start producing. Last year it was the Receivers fault. The year before it was Stephen McAdoo.

Less talk. More production. That goes for that entire organization.

That O-line was pure awful last year. How can you produce as a QB when there are lineman in your face constantly. Still hoping LaBatte changes his mind and comes back

That’s a good point Alex. I completely understand and agree with that that. Ergo this is why that ratio needs to be amended if not absolutely tossed. The best players are not playing. The Roughriders can plan all off season. To be held hostage by some guy who wants to hang out with his kids? All because of his birth certificate and with nobody behind him absolutely screwed that team in the ear. On that note yes, I will defend Cody all day. Let me be clear. I want him to be successful, but there are throws you need to… Read more »

I just can’t see the rational of people that want to eliminate or water down the Canadian content. To me the best solution would be four Canadians on the field at all times. Football is pretty boring when both teams are equal. The only time there is excitement is when there is a mistake or mismatch. The reason U S college football is so popular is because at any given time there are a few players that will go on to play professional mixed with a few future car salesmen and some up and coming real estate agents, etc. You get the… Read more »
