MONDAY RUNDOWN: KRAZY GEORGE!

We kicked off a brand new week with breaking news and two Hall of Fame fans on Episode #356 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Right off the hop RP read the breaking news that quarterback Mike Reilly has filed a grievance against the BC Lions for unpaid guaranteed salary (as per 3DownNation) and that there are reports that the QMJHL is going to a bubble in Quebec City. Those stories would end up being themes throughout the show.
  • Next up in The Warmup, Rod and Dupes covered these Quick Six show topics: 1) Week 9 in the NFL included Tom Brady suffering his worst career defeat, as his Buccaneers were squashed 38-3 by New Orleans on Sunday Night Football, 2) The Cowboys nearly pulled off an upset of Pittsburgh (Will the 8-0 Steelers go undefeated?), 3) Dupes’ Titans beat the Bears 24-17, 4) Who’s the best colour commentator in the NFL?, 5) Canadian icons Alex Trebek and Howie Meeker passed away over the weekend, and 6) TSN’s top remaining NHL free agents are Mike Hoffman, Erik Haula, Corey Perry, Mikael Granlund and Anthony Duclair. (RP said it’s like going to Day 3 of the a flea market.)
  • Professional sports fan Cameron Hughes joined the show from California to promote his book KING OF CHEER which will be launched on Tuesday. The 26-year vet brought along a special guest: KRAZY GEORGE! The famed super fan joined the show from San Jose and discussed his own Hall of Fame career, and his friendship with Cameron. It was a bonkers interview where Krazy George trolled the New York Yankees (calling them ugly and cheaters), and discussed his long association with the CFL’s BC Lions. Hughes’ book will be available wherever books are sold and it’s loaded with tons of photos and stories from his decades-long career entertaining fans around the continent.
  • Regina Pats COO Stacey Cattell joined the show to launch the Harvest Hockey Lottery supporting the post-secondary funds of all five Saskatchewan WHL teams, and is in cooperation with Great Western Brewery. The lottery goes live one week from today! He also discussed the WHL’s Return To Play and said they’ve had the benefit of following several other leagues, as their own proposal gets tweaked regularly. The plan is to drop the puck on the WHL season on January 8.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the NFL’s top prime time colour commentator – Troy Aikman, Cris Collinsworth, Tony Romo or Other? At press time, the leader was Tony Romo.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Game+ TV and simulcast on Facebook Live. We were joined by Canada’s foremost NFL expert Jim Lang from Toronto. He recapped Week 9 in the NFL and applauded the league for being able to continue in tough pandemic conditions. Lang also promoted his new book Everyday Hockey Heroes with co-author Bob McKenzie. Jim also said he’s optimistic the NHL season will start January 1, and feels Dodgers star Justin Turner should’ve received a 20-game suspension rather than getting off scott-free from MLB.
  • Regarding the Mike Reilly story, RP said he’s torn between letting the Lions and Reilly fight it out privately or delving into it because it’s a big CFL story. He also stated he’s tired of seeing good people and players get “screwed over” by teams, and that it’s not limited to the CFL.
