Monday’s show was Episode #84 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup, covering another busy sports weekend. They discussed Week 16 in the CFL, Week 4 in the NFL and the latest hockey happenings. Rod reported on the weekend’s Pats games, his book signing at Saturday’s Delisle Chiefs game, and showed off the bobblehead which the P.A. Raiders hand-delivered for the show set. Darren was the sidelines reporter for Friday’s Huskies/Dinos clash, and talked about Saskatchewan’s dominance over Calgary in Canada West football. They also weighed in on the SJHL’s year-long suspension of Yorkton Terriers forward Greg Mulhall after a video surfaced over the weekend which the hockey world viewed very poorly.
  • Riders/Bombers/Renegades alum Mike Abou-Mechrek joined the bunker in Segment 2 and reported on Saturday’s Riders/Argos game at BMO Field. He was in attendance. Abou said Rider fans made up for what was an otherwise dismal atmosphere. He felt, however, the Riders are just gaining steam and it all starts with the offensive line and the heroics of centre Dan Clark.
  • With two contending CFL teams missing their starting QBs for extended periods – Edmonton and Winnipeg – the panel debated veteran QBs who may be available before next week’s Trade Deadline. They kicked around the names McLeod Bethel Thompson, James Franklin, Zach Collaros, Antonio Pipkin, Jon Jennings, Dominique Davis, Brandon Bridge and/or Kevin Glenn. Dupes thought Collaros would be the most-worthwhile pick of the bunch.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which QB would you acquire at the Trade Deadline? The 4 names were: Jennings, Franklin, Collaros or Pipkin? The leader at press time was James Franklin.
  • TSN 1290 Winnipeg’s Troy Westwood joined the show via video chat and said he was disappointed in the play of Bomber QB Chris Streveler in Winnipeg’s 33-13 loss to Hamilton on Friday. He feels the Bombers should make an aggressive move in signing Kevin Glenn for the stretch run. Westwood also gave his thoughts on the Jets’ big signings over the weekend, but also expressed his disappointment in the attitude of holdout defensemen Dustin Byfuglien. Troy thinks if Buff knew he didn’t want to play hockey anymore, he should’ve informed the team long before training camp.
  • Former Lions/Bombers/Riders LB Barrin Simpson – the Minister of Defense – joined the show from his office in Fort Worth, TX where he’s a high school coach. He discussed being selected to the SEC’s all-Legends team, and offered his thoughts on the Dallas Cowboys loss in New Orleans on Sunday Night Football. “Bitter,” was the term he used.
  • TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor joined the show from Toronto for a wide-ranging chat. He feels all three big-name Argos QBs are likely on the trading block – Bethel-Thompson, Franklin & Collaros. “Nails” also touched on the contract extension talks between the Riders and Cody Fajardo, and feels the discussions are still in the early stage. However he feels both sides want to get a deal done, so an agreement should be a formality. He said, however, that no dollar figures have been made public. Naylor also touched on the Atlantic Schooners stadium proposal, and agreed that it’s an “ingenious” pitch by the Schooners.
  • In honour of show #84, the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn number-84 in their careers. Viewers chimed in and the list included Manny Arceneaux, Jordan Williams-Lambert, Mikhail Grabovski, Randy Moss, Antonio Brown, Sterling Sharpe and Chris Webber.
