RIDERS RE-SIGN GAINEY

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American defensive back Ed Gainey to a one-year contract extension.

Gainey (5’11 – 193lbs) enters his fifth season with the Roughriders and ninth in the CFL after initially joining the Green and White in 2016. The 29-year-old played all 18 games for the Club in 2019 earning 56 defensive tackles and two interceptions.

Gainey has played in 114 career games and has made 272 defensive tackles, 34 special teams tackles, one sack, 20 interceptions, four touchdowns and four forced fumbles.

The North Carolina native is a two-time CFL all-star (2017 and 2018) and was the Roughriders nominee for Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2017 after an exceptional 10 interception season.

Gainey was eligible to become a free agent on February 11, 2020.

Very good signing by the Riders. That completes the DB’s pretty much. Now on to the LB’s & DL. Judge was a very good start. I wouldn’t say his signing was a “coup” or “master stroke”. In my view it is the GM’s job to sign star players before they hit the market but you can’t really argue with the enthusiasm or sense of relief when a star comes back. Still work to be done but O’Day has done well so far.

Hearing that everyone but Ottawa, Edmonton & Saskatchewan has been chasing Jefferson. I have a hard time believing the Stamps or Bombers will win the war there because neither like to overspend, BLM being a notable exception. If not in Winnipeg, probably… Read more »

Saskatchewan Roughriders need to sign Derel Walker, Duron Carter immediately. These two “young” men are CFL Superstars who make the difference between winning and losing and the Roughriders definitely need some “young” winners on their team playing roster. Lock them up on 3 year contracts.

Duron Carter is a fun guy to follow around but teams he has been on have won nothing. He didn’t do much in BC & the reason no one is talking about him is because, hello, he isn’t a superstar or a particularly high commodity right now. I think he lands somewhere but he’ll be cheap. Lot of natural physical gifts but who knows if he ever reaches his “potential” or, for that matter, gets a team to take a chance on him. I seriously doubt the Riders need the circus that would come with a return to Regina. Rider… Read more »
