The B.C. Lions continue to roll, while the frustrated Edmonton Elks continue to struggle. The Lions improved their CFL West Division-leading record to 6-1 on Saturday with a 27-0 win over the winless Elks in Edmonton. It was the eighth straight loss for the Alberta squad, and 21st straight at home, who haven’t won at Commonwealth Stadium since October of 2019.

“(Frustration) is at an all-time high right now,” said Elks quarterback Taylor Cornelius. “The first half, we get behind the sticks with penalties, it seemed like every drive it was something. And then to come out in the second half and still not put up any points for a second game in a row against these guys is just crazy, man.”

The Edmonton Stingers (9-11) used a 26-8 run to close out the Winnipeg Sea Bears (12-8) 98-86 in front of a record crowd at the Canada Life Centre. The win prevented the Sea Bears from clinching the number one seed in the west, and gave the Calgary Surge the top spot in the conference. It also set up a rematch between Winnipeg and Edmonton in the play-in round next week.

Toronto will hand the ball to Jose Berrios on Sunday as the Blue Jays aim to sweep the visiting Los Angeles Angels. The Jays, who have won three straight, will face left-hander Tyler Anderson. The Jays beat the Angels 6-1 on Saturday as Alejandro Kirk hit two home runs and Santiago Espinal added a two-run homer. Angels outfielder Taylor Ward was taken to hospital after he was hit in the side of the head by a pitch from Blue Jays’ starter Alek Manoah in the fifth inning.

Aaron Judge homered and singled twice in his second game back from the injured list and the New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-3 on Saturday. Judge has three walks and three hits in nine plate appearances since returning Friday from the toe injury that kept him out since early June. The Orioles remained one-and-a-half games ahead of Tampa Bay atop the A-L East. The Yankees are three-and-a-half games behind Toronto and Houston for the final two wild-card playoff berths in the American League.

A person with knowledge of the trade says the Texas Rangers have acquired three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer in a blockbuster deal with the New York Mets. It’s an all-in move from the surprise leaders in the AL West. The Rangers added the 39-year-old Scherzer with Jacob deGrom sidelined possibly until the end of next season by Tommy John elbow surgery.

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has requested a trade, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Saturday night.

Taylor, the 2021 NFL rushing champ, has been seeking a contract extension before his rookie contract expires at the end of this season and he’s been one of several running backs to publicly air their grievances throughout the offseason.

NFL Network first reported Taylor’s request to be traded.

It came shortly after Taylor left team owner Jim Irsay’s motorhome after a meeting that lasted nearly an hour as the Colts conducted a night practice.

Meanwhile the Miami Dolphins are signing free agent cornerback Eli Apple to a one year-deal, a person with knowledge of the signing told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced the deal.

The Dolphins were in need of depth at the cornerback position after All-Pro Jalen Ramsey tore the meniscus in his left knee at practice Thursday.

Ramsey had surgery Friday to repair the tear and later tweeted the procedure “went well.” There is no timeline for his return yet, but he is expected to miss the beginning of the regular season.

Miami opens the season on Sept. 10 at the Los Angeles Chargers.

Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario, is within reach of the leader heading into Sunday’s final round of the Evian Championship. Celine Boutier carded a 4-under-67 in Saturday’s third round to increase her lead to three shots. The 29-year-old Boutier aims to become the first Frenchwoman to win the tourney. Boutier’s closest challenger is Nasa Hataoka of Japan who is three strokes back. Minjee Lee of Australia and Henderson are tied for third, four shots behind Boutier.
