THURSDAY SHOW RECAP: A DOG’S BREAKFAST!

Thursday’s show was Episode #77 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights:

  • On a jam-packed show covering a wide variety of topics, Rod and Dupes were joined in the bunker by The Silver Fox Kelly Remple for The Warmup. They covered Wednesday night’s NHL preseason games, the Patrik Laine situation, Trevor Harris’s status in Edmonton, the Riders/A&W saga and more. Junior hockey fans have been clamouring all week for more coverage since it’s opening week in the WHL and SJHL so the crew obliged with their East Division Power Rankings.
  • Rod’s rankings (all-the-while admitting there are political reasons for his choices) are as follows: 1) Saskatoon, 2) PA, 3) Winnipeg, 4) Regina, 5) Moose Jaw, and 6) Brandon. He detailed the reasons why on the show.
  • Vegas Golden Knights broadcaster/reporter Gary Lawless joined the show via video chat and snickered that Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon will love Rod’s prediction for the Wheat Kings, the team Kelly owns.
  • Lawless discussed Week 15 in the CFL and predicted that Bomber RB Andrew Harris will come out guns-a-blazing in Montreal with plenty to prove. He then covered Year 3 of the Golden Knights, the team’s popularity in Las Vegas, and the impending move of the Raiders from Oakland to LV.
  • In Hour 2, Rod was joined by Rider Hall of Famer Dan Rashovich and Leader Post columnist Rob Vanstone. They recapped the 1989 mini-reunion in Riderville this past weekend, discussed this week’s games and debated if the 2019 Riders are championship-calibre.
  • Matt Gourlie from the Sask Sports Hall of Fame & Museum joined the bunker to talk about the Hall’s current exhibit “Play Hard, Fight Hard“, recognizing the history of sport & the military going back over 100 years! It’s the largest travelling exhibit the Hall has ever hosted, and is here from now until January!
  • Matt was also the WHL beat writer for the Moose Jaw Times Herald for many years so he offered his 2019-20 Dub predictions as well.
  • In honour of show #77, the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn that number in their careers. The star-studded list includes Ray Bourque, Paul Coffee, Phil Esposito, Adam Oates, Wayne Drinkwalter, Adam Brooks, Ron Duguay, Brian Fryar and the Sask Rush’s Jeff Shattler.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL? The whopping winner was Winnipeg at Montreal.
