TUESDAY RUNDOWN: HUMBOLDT BRONCOS SCOTT BARNEY, AND NIK LEWIS!

We covered a lot of ground on Episode #357 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Monday Night Football – The Patriots outlast the Jets 30-27 (RP said he wanted Cam Newton to win, but the Patriots to lose, 2) More on Mike Reilly’s grievance with the BC Lions, 3) Jamie Heward joins the Henderson Silver Knights, 4) The Blue Jays are going to be buyers in MLB free agency, 5) Bruce Arians calls out Tom Brady, and 6) An update on Return To Play in hockey. Rod said that while it’s difficult, we need to continue to be patient and trust the league leaders to get back onto the ice.
  • Humboldt Broncos Head Coach & GM Scott Barney joined the show from his office at Elgar Petersen Arena. He discussed opening weekend in the SJHL regular season and having a game postponed due to the blizzard, his team’s ranking as the #1 team in the SJHL and perhaps all of CJAHL, the stresses of getting his team ready to play while keeping the players safe from Covid, community involvement (his players shovelled Humboldt residents out of the snow all day Monday), and the task of rebuilding the franchise over the past three seasons. Barney said he’s surrounded by great people including the team’s Board of Directors as well as business and hockey staff.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will the 0-9 NY Jets win a game this season? At press time, the results were around 50/50.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on national TV on Game+ TV and simulcast on Facebook Live. We were joined by CFL all-time receptions king Nik Lewis. It was a deep 45-minute chat where the Stampeders great got into all kinds of topics. Regarding the Mike Reilly situation, Lewis admitted that there are all kinds of under-the-table dealings in the CFL. In the end, he hopes Reilly gets his money because he’s one of the league’s marquee players. A native Texan, Nik got into the U.S. election and offered his thoughts on Donald Trump and called for the nation to heal at this time. He also discussed The Spring League, and explained some of his off-field endeavours including personal coaching and broadcasting.
  • In The Face-off segment for The Mad Greek and Ultimate Fan Zone, RP and Dupes squared off on Notre Dame students rushing the field after Saturday night’s NCAA Football game against Clemson. Rod said although the university president scolded students in a letter afterwards, it’s going to be tough to enforce Covid controls as the pandemic wears on. Dupes said it’s prudent to follow the measures in place into 2021.
