Tuesday’s show was Episode 85 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened the show with The Warmup covering the day’s hottest sports topics including the CFL naming Hamilton LB Simoni Lawrence as the fans’ choice Player of the Week. Rod felt, judging by the NFL’s season-long suspension of Raider LB Vontaze Burflict for another headshot on Sunday, that Lawrence should be banished as well for his “targeting” history, and shouldn’t be eligible for such honours. The boys also discussed the opening of NHL season, and should the Riders investigate a trade given their glut of talented American receivers?
  • Global Regina’s Taylor Shire joined the bunker for Segment 2 and given the fact he’s a certified referee by the Saskatchewan Hockey Association, he was officially anointed as the RP Show Director of Officiating. (Producer Clark came up with the idea). They debated the Simoni Lawrence situation, and Taylor gave an update on Riderville as he is Global’s beat reporter for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
  • Calgary Flames broadcaster Peter Loubardias joined the show via video chat from Flames practice. Calgary opens the NHL season Thursday at Colorado and “Lou” talked about the fact the Flames are picked by many to win the Western Conference. He also said that too much emphasis is being placed on the Lucic/Neal trade, and that each player is expected to fill vastly different roles for their new teams this year in Edmonton and Calgary.
  • CTV Regina’s Don Hewitt joined the bunker to chat all things CFL, and reiterated his stance from his latest blog that the Riders MUST insert Jordan Williams-Lambert into the lineup ASAP. Rod and Taylor agreed that “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” regarding the Rider offense.
  • NFL Insider Jim Lang joined the show for a Week 4 update. He discussed who are the real Cleveland Browns? And how did the Saints upset the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football? He credits New Orleans defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.
  • Rod rang the bell to welcome new show sponsors Modern Men Hair Salon and Caliber Coffee, and announced 3 more people have signed up for the inaugural Rod Pedersen Show VIP Sports Trip to Houston Dec. 5-10. Viewers/listeners have until the end of the week to sign up at RodPedersen.com/Trip and be eligible to attend the Oct. 28 Monday Night Football Ticket Party in the bunker for trip-goers. Rod also thanked the Calgary Dinos football club for donating a helmet for the show set!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who is the CFL’s 2019 Coach of the Year so far: Craig Dickenson, Khari Jones, Orlondo Steinauer or other? At press time, Khari Jones was winning by a nose on the Twitter vote.
  • In honour of show #85, the guys debated players who’ve worn number 85 in their career. The group includes Milt Stegall, Petr Klima, Chad Johnson, Antonio Gates and Kyran Moore.
