TUESDAY SHOW RECAP: JORDAN EBERLE JOINS!

We were back at it on Tuesday with Episode 204 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Elite Eight show topics: 1) The NFLPA’s Chief Medical Officer is optimistic of the NFL playing a full season, 2) Saints coach Sean Payton agrees it’s possible, 3) How does that relate to the CFL?, 4) Book Review of The Baltimore Stallions, 5) Layoffs by the Alouettes, Stampeders, Flames and Oilers, 6) Thoughts on the NHL players’ conference calls, 7) Would you settle for Best-of-3 series in the NHL and NBA playoffs?, and 8) What are you watching during stay-at-home orders?
  • The guys were forced to tap dance for awhile as there were connection problems bringing on NHL/Pats alum Derek Morris from Scottsdale, AZ (1107 NHL games played, Calgary, Phoenix, Colorado, NY Rangers, Boston). That brought up the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre write-in poll question of: What’s your favourite all-time sports movie? Rod’s is Slapshot while Darren’s is Remember The Titans. Viewers and listeners had dozens of responses.
  • Once Derek Morris joined, he talked about coaching all ranges of minor hockey programs in Scottsdale and Chandler, AZ and while they’re not yet at Canada’s level yet, that’s the goal. He talked about his NHL career (Mike Modano, Jaromir Jagr and Sidney Crosby were the toughest forwards to defend), and said his favourite all-time D-partner was Keith Yandle with the Coyotes. He said the key to longevity in the NHL isn’t necessarily up to you, but has a lot to do with whom your partnered with. “Mo” also revealed that the fondest time in his hockey career was 1995-97 with the Regina Pats, and that he’s been waiting 23 years to pick up with Rod. He also said he’s watching the Pats very closely, the Connor Bedard situation, and said the team is in great hands with current ownership.
  • Winnipeg sportscaster Andrew “Hustler” Paterson joined the show via video chat and discussed how they’re filling 4 hours of programming daily on TSN 1290, how the Jets might get jobbed of a great season (they were on a 4-game winning streak when the season was suspended), the ramifications to the CFL around Coronavirus, and his thoughts on the Netflix phenomena Tiger King.
  • NY Islanders forward and Regina Pats great Jordan Eberle joined the show from his couch and talked about the birth of his daughter during the “pause” in the NHL season. Jordan reported Mom and baby are doing fine. He discussed his life since the pandemic took over, how he’s been keeping busy and in shape, and what it’s like being a visiting team against the Vegas Golden Knights (Rod was in attendance for the Islanders’ 2-0 loss at Vegas last month). Jordan also talked about splitting their home games between Nausau County Coliseum and Barklay’s Center in Brooklyn.
