WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – IT’S NEVER TOO LATE

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)

What we have for you today is a whole lotta random thoughts because I couldn’t narrow it down to just one. The winner is YOU:

#1 – I don’t need to look at the schedule for Week 7 of the CFL to know what’s the Game of the Week. It’s Saturday night with Saskatchewan at BC. It’s going to be the biggest crowd at BC Place since last year’s playoffs and the Lions are calling it Watermelon Smash Night (An ode to the theme of Sask fans wearing watermelons on their heads).

Although the Roughriders are without #1 QB Trevor Harris for likely the season, it doesn’t necessarily mean the season’s gone up in smoke. What it does mean is it’s time for #2 QB Mason Fine to live up to his name in the biggest start of his young career.

I’m 50/50 on whether the North Texas product can do it, so that’s why we watch the games.

#2 – The NHL’s Calgary Flames announced they will retire goalie Mikka Kiprussoff’s #34 on March 2. It created much debate on whether such an honour is warranted for Kipper. He’s in the discussion as the greatest Flames goalie ever, but it’s not a slamdunk.

What is a slamdunk is that Theoren Fleury’s #14 should be retired based on his Flames career yet it remains unretired for reasons that only the Flames seem to know.

Here’s what I don’t get from the Fleury-haters. They say his Hall of Fame exclusion has less to do with his addiction issues and more to do with his political views.

Please help me understand: Why is Theo vilified for critical comments about Justin Trudeau and Joe Biden yet those same pundits can get away with the most vile things they say about Trump, Scott Moe or Danielle Smith?

Tell me, please, how that’s okay?

And #3 – People need to wake up when it comes to addiction and substance abuse. Entering a treatment program and/or Recovery is nothing to be frowned upon. It’s to be applauded.

NHL forward Alex Galchenyuk announced last night he’s doing exactly that after his brush with Scottsdale police on the weekend which resulted in the termination of his contract with the Coyotes.

The kid made the wise move and will save his career if he sticks with it. He can be living proof that it’s never too late.

That is to be celebrated.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Again, not a reason to keep him out! He should be IN based on his skills, abilities and RECORD as a hockey player. This political revisionist crap has to stop.

Oh I can explain that. You can’t make fat jokes about Lizzo. Yet they can about Donald Trump. Now both are disgusting vile human beings. But…..the left control the narrative and unless you fit that narrative you at risk It used to be if you didn’t stay in school, get a job, stay off the crack pipe you were for warned. You will wind up a bum in front of the Glencairn 7-11. Guess what? That’s now in style. Houselessness? Go watch Monte Clements YouTube channel about his rentals in Regina. His places are destroyed by drug addiction scumbags. Who… Read more »

Now picking up on why it’s okay to lambast Scott Moe and Danielle Smith. These two know better, but choose not to take the wise path. There is nothing more dangerous than a person who gets their information/infotainment from one source, reads nothing, learns nothing, and then has to pander to a voting block. The NDP do it with organized labour – now those are very dangerous people. The S.P/Alberta whatever they are Conservatives – they pander to the billy big rigs/redneck rockos and who pays the price? The dude getting up and grinding every day and trying to get… Read more »

Without Theo Fleury, Lanny McDonald doesn’t have a Stanley Cup ring.
