WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: PHILLY SPECIAL AND TODD STOTTLEMYRE!

We stepped a little out of our strike zone of football and hockey on Episode #353 of The RP Show, and ventured into lacrosse and pro baseball! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Antonio Brown’s been activated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their Sunday Night Football game against New Orleans, 2) Jets star Mark Scheifele says he’s 100% recovered from his injury suffered in Game 1 of the NHL’s Qualification Round against Calgary, 3) RP and Dupes have registered for Grey Cup Unite!, 4) What a circus the U.S. election is, 5) How will sports look in 2021? (RP figures teams should be preparing to play with no fans at all in 2021), and 6) Chase Claypool “doesn’t love” the nickname Mapletron.
  • The face of the National Lacrosse League, Devan Kaney, joined the show from Philadelphia. The national TV host and editor talked about the cancellation of the 2019-20 season and playoffs being a real bummer, especially since she was planning on visiting SaskTel Centre for her first Rush game! However she concurred with Commissioner Nick Sakiewicz that the NLL will come back bigger and stronger, particularly with a new franchise in Fort Worth, TX. She explained how she’s kept busy with NLL business during the pandemic, what it’s like to share Philly’s Wells Fargo Center with the Flyers and 76ers, and why Philly people are “tough”.
  • Next up was Philadelphia podcaster Dan Seravalli from the Enterprize Sports podcast. He talked about the rise of the Flyers to being the NHL Eastern Conference’s #1 seed, the future of the team in goal with Carter Hart, and examined the notion of a Patrik Laine/Ivan Provorov trade. Seravalli discussed being a distant relation to TSN Senior Hockey Writer Frank Seravalli, and how he’s fascinated with the Canadian Prairies because that’s where a ton of Flyers greats come from.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the best NFL QB this season – Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes or Other? At press time, Wilson was leading.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on national TV on the Game+ Network as well as Facebook Live. We re-upped on the Quick Six show topics and then were joined by Blue Jays great Todd Stottlemyre from Phoenix, AZ. The Jays great (1988-1994) discussed his two World Series titles with the Jays and how the team’s bond continues to this day. He took several questions from viewers and continues to be amazed by the love for the Jays from coast to coast in Canada. The Yakima, WA product then discussed his new book The Observer – A Modern Fable On Mastering Your Thoughts where he details a life-changing session with a sports psychologist in 1994. His intention is to pass on what he learned to those struggling in life right now. Stottlemyre also discussed his legendary father Mel, who’s an MLB legend.
