WEDNESDAY SHOW RECAP, RIDER UPDATE

Wednesday’s show was Episode #47 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights:

  • With Dupes vacationing at Rogers Cup in Montreal, Rod was joined in the bunker by Derek “Duke” Meyers and social media star Amanda Ruller for The Warmup. They discussed the latest news in sports including Fajardo Mania, the Stafford/Jones trade, the Regina Red Sox/Moose Jaw Miller Express playoff series and Regina Sports Hall of Fame induction class for 2017.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL? The whopping winner was Calgary-Winnipeg on Thursday Night Football, and the panel teed up the game with the ramifications for both the Stampeders and the Blue Bombers.
  • In Hour 1, Maple Leafs YouTuber Steve Dangle joined the show from his home in Oshawa, ON for a Leafs update. That got the Facebook feed humming from viewers who peppered Steve with questions like: What will it take to beat Boston in the playoffs? Will the Leafs up their point total from last year? And what’s the latest on Mitch Marner?
  • Leader Post columnist Rob Vanstone joined the bunker in Hour 2 for a deep dive on the 4-3 Saskatchewan Roughriders. RV said plenty of kudos are deserved for the Green & White, since not many expected a 3-game winning streak to come on the heels of a 1-3 start. He offered his thoughts on Fajardo, The Trade, and this week’s game at Montreal.
  • The Riders left for Montreal on Wednesday, and will announce their roster for the game Thursday morning. It sounds like we’re in for a ton of surprises. Kenny Stafford is expected to replace the injured Shaq Evans while kicker Brett Lauther appears to still be on the shelf with a groin injury. 1st round pick Justin McInnis will likely see lots of action against the Alouettes. DT Micah Johnson won’t play and listed as question marks are DE A.C. Leonard and DB Loucheiz Purifoy.
  • A special treat was a visit by the Minister of Defense, Barrin Simpson, who joined the show from his home in Fort Worth, TX. The former Rider, Lion and Bomber linebacker is coaching football at Chisolm Trail High School and said he’s got a big announcement upcoming. He plans to break the news on the RP Show.
  • Nuggets from the interview include the fact that Barrin is awaiting a call from the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and said the call is overdue! Regarding the 2010 Grey Cup and the Riders’ 21-18 loss to Montreal in Edmonton, Rod asked Barrin what the Riders could’ve done differently that day. Simpson’s answer was “Win the game!” He talked about his three Grey Cup losses and said they still sting to this day.
  • Regarding show #47, the panel continued the tradition of naming sports figures who wore #47 in their careers. The group included Sam Eguavoen, Maurice Lloyd, Kelly Trithart, Jack Morris, Tom Glavine, Alexander Radulov and Stephan Lebeau.
  • New RP Show business manager Tyler Grose joined the bunker for the Overtime segment talking about his role with the show. He said the most impressive thing he learned about our program is that it’s Canada’s most-watched show on Facebook Live, according to official stats from Facebook. Tyler is in charge of sponsorships for the RP Show and will be bringing sponsors into the bunker over the new few weeks.
