Monday’s show was Episode #60 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • Rod and Dupes were in the bunker for The Warmup recapping the weekend in sports. Rod discussed Touchdown Atlantic, where he was on hand in Moncton to watch the Alouettes down the Argonauts 28-22 in a CFL thriller. Darren discussed the Saskatchewan Rattlers’ victory in the CEBL championship game Sunday at SaskTel Centre.
  • Of course they went deep on the day’s biggest news – that CFL rushing leader Andrew Harris of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers has been suspended two games for a positive steroid test. Rod said news like this never surprises him, and that this violation shouldn’t taint Harris’s Hall of Fame career.
  • Former Rider/Bomber/Renegade Mike Abou-Mechrek joined the bunker as well and said it’s not a secret that CFL players have been known to use performance enhancing drugs. He said, however, that the technology in 2019 has made it extremely difficult for offenders to go undetected.
  • BC Lions and Riders great Jason Clermont joined the bunker as well, and offered his thoughts on the suspension. The guys also talked about Week 11 in the CFL, and the surprising retirement of Andrew Luck in the NFL.
  • Blue Bombers great Obby Khan joined the show via video chat and said Bomber fans are not upset with the news. He said the feeling in Winnipeg is that this is part of the game, and that at the very worst, Winnipeg stars Matt Nichols and Andrew Harris are getting a break for a few games before the stretch run.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Does the positive drug test taint Andrew Harris’s career? The result of the vote was about 50/50.
  • The guys also talked about the Riders’ win over Ottawa on Saturday and the team’s current 5-game win streak. They agreed things are lining up well for a Rider sweep of the Bombers in the upcoming Labour Day Classic and Banjo Bowl.
  • Dupes rejoined the bunker for the Warmup segment and they promoted this Saturday’s All Star/Celebrity Football Weekend featuring a CFL Alumni/Celebrity Flag Football game at Leibel Field this Saturday night. The roster includes Jason Clermont, Abou-Mechrek, Neal Hughes, Wes Cates, Noah Picton, Addison Richards and many more. All proceeds are going towards Regina Minor Football and the Regina Riot Womens Tackle Football Club.
  • In honour of show #60, the boys recognized sports figures who’ve worn number-60 and they pointed to Gene Makowsky, Obby Khan, Ron Cherkas, Jose Theodore and Don Bahniuk.
