FRIDAY SHOW RECAP: JUSTIN DUNK JOINS THE BUNKER!

Friday’s show was Episode #73 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights:

  • A huge football weekend kicked off on a Football Friday. Rod and Dupes were joined in the bunker by the CFL’s top insider Justin Dunk from 3DownNation.com. They previewed Week 14 in the CFL including the Friday Night Football clash between the Lions and RedBlacks at BC Place, Friday night’s Wheat Bowl featuring the Huskies and Rams at Mosaic Stadium, and talked some NFL too.
  • Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Frenzy joined the party as the panel covered a wide range of CFL topics including this winter’s salacious group of free agent QBs (Matt Nichols, Chris Streveler, Cody Fajardo and Jeremiah Masoli) and how the Ticats feel they’re not getting enough respect on the national stage. The guys also previewed the Riders/Alouettes clash at Mosaic Stadium, and the emergence of star Montreal QB Vernon Adams Jr.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL? The leader at press time was Hamilton at Calgary.
  • U of S Huskies head coach and Canadian Football Hall of Famer Scott Flory joined the show via video chat from the Huskies facility to preview the Wheat Bowl. He said despite the fact it’s a rivalry game, it’s no bigger than any other on the schedule. He also talked about the tantalizing QB match-up between the Huskies’ Mason Nyhus and the Rams’ Josh Donnelly. He said he needs to remind himself that this is Nyhus’s first year as a starter, because he carries himself with such veteran poise.
  • Because it’s Friday the 13th, a special guest was former Alouettes kicker Damon Duval, ONE of the villains in the ill-fated 13th Man debacle of the 2009 Grey Cup. Duval joined the show from Auburn, Alabama where he’s working as a substitute teacher. He said that since that game a decade ago, Rider fans have been very nice to him. He said, “I was just doing my job”.
  • In honour of show #73, the guys recognized players who’ve worn number-73 and that includes Gordon Sturtridge of Rider fame, Dennis Rodman, Michael Ryder and Pavel Kubina.
