TUESDAY SHOW RECAP: KATE PETTERSEN, DAVE BABYCH AND MORE!

We covered a wide variety of topics on Episode ##266 of The RP Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Nothing to report in the CFL today, 2) The NFL Canada concept is getting some traction, 3) CHL Import Draft goes Tuesday, 4) Notes from Rod’s appearance on the Wheat Kings Harvest Podcast Monday night, 5) Richard Sherman says Cam Newton’s contract with the Patriots is “ridiculous” and “disgusting”, and 6) Getting ready for the 2020 MLB season.
  • 1,195 game NHL veteran Dave Babych joined the show from Vancouver where he serves as an ambassador for the Canucks. He discussed pandemic life and how the many hockey camps he runs have had to be shut down, however they’re slowly returning to the ice. Babych spent many seasons with each of the Jets, Canucks and Whalers and Winnipeg viewers chimed in with Babych memories. “They don’t roll out the red carpet for me anymore,” Babych chuckled. “It’s turned purple by now”. He said he hasn’t given much thought to the Canucks/Wild first-round series but admitted perhaps he should, given his role with the club. Babych observed that it’ll be up to the players now, not coach Travis Green or GM Jim Benning. It was a wide-ranging visit.
  • Hershey Bears defenceman and former Regina Pats captain Colby Williams appeared in the bunker in Hour 1 and talked about how they were informed of their season being suspended during a morning skate before a game in Hershey. Colby talked about his AHL career and the difficulty of cracking the parent Washington Capitals roster since they’re so stacked throughout the system. He hinted that he may look around in free agency. Williams admitted that very little is known about next season, and figures they might get back to playing by November. It was another wide-ranging hockey visit.
  • Kate Pettersen of Edmonton Oilers TV joined the show in Hour 2 from her off-season home in Southern Ontario. She’s active in the equestrian world, which lends itself to social distancing. Kate – the daughter of CFL and TSN great Leif Pettersen – was on the Argos staff during their 2017 Grey Cup season and explained why Jim Popp and Marc Trestman were able to complete a 9-month rebuild with a championship. She also expressed grave concern over the future of the CFL, but is hoping for the best.
  • Canada’s foremost NFL Insider Jim Lang joined the show from York, ON. The former Voice of the Argos said the CFL is in trouble due to its inability to evolve over the past few decades and a Return To Play in 2020 will be difficult. Jim also answered several NFL questions include Cam Newton’s signing with the Patriots, the future of Colin Kaepernick, and predicted Tom Brady’s Buccaneers will win more games than Bill Belichick’s Patriots IF the NFL is able to play this season.
  • The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 4 of the CFL Sim season? – Ottawa at Montreal, Winnipeg at Edmonton, Calgary at Toronto or BC at Saskatchewan. At press time, Lions/Riders was leading. The winner of the Twitter poll will be broadcast on the RP Show Facebook Live channel Thursday evening.
