MONDAY RUNDOWN: STANLEY CUP, CFL & BLUE JAYS!

We cracked the lid on a brand new week with Episode #308 of The RP Show, Canada’s daytime sports talk show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) No Regina Pats Blue & White Intrasquad game Monday night (the pandemic hits home for Rod), 2) The Stars, Islanders and Golden Knights are all up 3-1 in their series, and Don Cherry is now following the RP Show on Twitter!, 3) Monday’s schedule features an NHL doubleheader with Boston vs Tampa Bay and Dallas versus Colorado, 4) Dakoda Shepley signs with the 49ers, 5) The Blue Jays go for a sweep of the Orioles and are a game off the AL East lead, and 6) NFL training camp notes: The Buccaneers and Cowboys are stealing the headlines (plus the Jaguars’ release of Leonard Fournette).
  • Flames broadcaster Peter Loubardias joined the show to discuss the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Calgary’s Round 1 exit. Lou feels the Jets injuries spelled the end of what could’ve been a marvellous series. As for losing out to Dallas, he feels the Flames learned a valuable lesson for the next few years to come. Peter would also like to see the Flames remove the interim title from head coach Geoff Ward. Regarding the pandemic, Lou figures we don’t need to examine where society went wrong but should rather look ahead and focus on relationships rather than material things.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: What should the Blue Jays do on today’s MLB Trade Deadline: Acquire hitting, acquire pitching, sell or stand pat? The majority of respondents said the Jays should beef up their pitching staff.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and we were joined right off the hop by TSN’s Farhan Lalji from inside the NHL’s Edmonton bubble. Farhan examined the Canucks/Golden Knights series and feels Vegas is simply the better team. He admitted the Canucks may boast more top-end skill but the Golden Knights are a more complete team. Regarding life inside the bubble, Lalji reported “it’s getting to them” (referring to NHL players). As for the future of the CFL, Farhan said “I’m nervous. I really am.”
  • Sportsnet 650 Vancouver’s James Cybulski joined the show from Vancouver to discuss the Vancouver/Golden Knights series and agreed with a lot of Farhan’s observations. He feels the Canucks need to find a way to deal with Vegas bruiser Ryan Reaves however no matter how this series turns out, James thinks Vancouver is on the right track. James is also the voice of NHL 20 on EA Sports and said it’s mind-blowing to be the voice for a video game he grew up playing. He said it was an incredibly time-intensive product but the finished product has been amazing.
