TUESDAY RUNDOWN: STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS & MORE!

We opened a short week with Episode #491 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – on Tuesday! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Monday NHL leftovers (the Jets sweep the Oilers and Leafs/Habs is a long way from over, 2) John Metchie wins the Jon Cornish Award as NCAA Football’s Top Canadian, 3) The NFL’s Julio Jones and Aaron Rodgers sagas, 4) Does anyone care about the World Hockey Championships?, 5) The Blue Jays drop a marathon to the Rays and are on a slide, and 6) Phil Mickelson captures the PGA Championship at age 50.
  • The guys went deep into the Canadian NHL series and Rod gave his thoughts on where the Jets are headed, and what the Oilers need to do (he’d address the goaltending situation immediately). Darren gave his analysis on the Toronto/Montreal series and how the John Tavares injury affects the Leafs.
  • Sportsnet Flames broadcaster Ryan Leslie joined the show from Calgary to break down the series he’s watching the closest and crowed that he picked Winnipeg to down the Oilers! They offered deep analysis on each club. Ryan’s also watching the Florida/Tampa, Vegas/Minnesota series the closest.
  • The Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: (Borrowed from Arash Madani) Who asks for a trade first – Connor McDavid, Carey Price or Neither? At press time, Neither was leading.
  • Viewers were very eager to learn about the Recovery Coaching Academy in Connecticut which Rod attended last week which caused him to miss the show. The host admitted to being a little surprised at the interest because it’s not a very glamorous industry.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff we were joined by The Sports Doctor Dave Petrishen from Winnipeg. Like all Winnipeggers he stayed up to watch the marathon and said there’s a lot of droopy eyes in the Manitoba Capital today. Dave said he takes back all he said about poor jobs done by Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and coach Paul Maurice this season! The Doc said no one’s turned their attention to Round 2 just yet since they’re all still savouring the franchise’s first-ever playoff win over the Oilers.
  • VSiN NHL betting expert Andy McNeil joined the show to promote the Las Vegas betting entity and said the Jets were “lucky” to pull off the sweep against Edmonton. That drew the ire of Winnipeg viewers! McNeil then provided some betting odds and smart bets for the Stanley Cup Playoffs and agreed with Rod’s policy of never betting on his favourite team (the Vegas Golden Knights). McNeil explained the ins and outs of oddsmaking at VSiN and agreed to come on again soon!
  • The last two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and we had considerable back and forth with fans over the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
  • Rod and Darren Faced Off on the Julio Jones saga and Rod said the Falcons star couldn’t have had any idea his phone call was on live TV with FS1’s Shannon Sharpe when he said he wants out of Atlanta. Dupes feels the entire scandal was orchestrated in advance. The Face Off is presented by UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant in Moose Jaw.
