WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: MORE ELKS CHATTER & STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS

Wednesday’s hump day Episode #497 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – was a blast! Read on for the rundown:

  • Moose Dupont and RP kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Tampa Bay’s up 2-0 over Carolina but Canes coach Rod Brind’Amour feels they’re not outmatched, 2) Canadiens/Jets Game 1 goes tonight! (Rod takes Jets in 6, Darren takes Jets in 7), 3) Vegas/Colorado Game 2 goes tonight and Marc-Andre Fleury will start for the Golden Knights, 4) Sask Premier Scott Moe greenlights a full Mosaic Stadium as part of Step Three, 5) The Jays could be back in Toronto by the end of the season, and 6) More discussion on the Edmonton Elks new name.
  • RP Show NHL Insider and Columbus Blue Jackets pro scout Rich Sutter joined the show from Lethbridge for a deep dive on the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Regarding the Hellebuyck/Price match-up, Rich says we shouldn’t necessarily expect low-scoring games. “This could go either way,” Sutter surmised. He also feels there’s no way for the Golden Knights to stop Nathan McKinnon. Rich admitted to being a big Rod Brind’Amour fan but doesn’t see how the Hurricanes can win this series.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who should win the Vezina Trophy – Fleury, Vasilevskiy or Grubauer? At press time, Marc-Andre Fleury was leading.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff we invited a Q&A with viewers and delved more into the CFL Return To Play and more hot takes on the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
  • Edmonton Elks colour commentator Dave Campbell joined the show to discuss Tuesday’s team name unveiling. Dave feels that more than anything, it was just nice to attend a news conference. He was fully in favour of a name change due to racial insensitivity and said the Edmonton franchise was first class in their rollout. Dave said he’s 95% certain the CFL will play this year but “that 5% scares the hell out me!” He said he hasn’t allowed himself to look at division previews or position battles because there’s still lingering doubt that this season will happen. Campbell also answered fan questions on where Elks gear can be purchased. He didn’t really even want to get into CFL/XFL merger talk.
  • The final two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and it almost entirely evolved into Canadiens/Jets talk!
  • Wednesday’s show is available for viewing now on our YouTube/Facebook pages, you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the CONTENT tab at the top of this page or listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.

CFL’s Edmonton Elks … still a play on Esks name as the l in Elks is silent. Edmonton brass sure must think people are stupid. Also, new name spelled as Elks when it should be Elk.
