FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: NAYLOR DISHES & FRENZY RETIRES!
It was quite an emotional day, and we covered a lot of ground, on Episode #504 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) CFL stuff – the players have punted the ball to the owners and now it’s up to their Monday vote to play, 2) The Vegas Golden Knights eliminate Colorado and move on to Round 3, 3) A Denver reporter drops an F-bomb in the Avs postgame news conference (turns out it was friend of the show Adrian Dater!), 4) Russell Wilson says he never asked the Seahawks for a trade, 5) Jays at Boston Friday night, and 6) NBA Playoff glance.
- TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor joined the show for a very insightful explanation of the latest in the CFL. He contends that the CFL Governors will vote to play on Monday but isn’t sure what number of votes are needed for it to happen. Rod asked if it’s true some teams want to play in 2021 even if it’s without all nine teams? Dave admitted that’s been discussed but isn’t sure if the league constitution would allow it. He discussed the CFL’s application to have the quarantine period shortened and said players will have to follow health protocols once the season starts. There were several questions from viewers and Naylor answered ’em all!
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will the CFL Governors vote to play on Monday? At press time 86% of respondents said yes.
- In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for Four Seasons Sports Palace we were joined by University of Regina Rams assistant coach Bruce Anderson. He explained that the team is holding sanctioned workouts daily and they’re eager to get the season underway! Bruce previewed the landscape of Canada West teams in 2021 and figures the Rams will be near the top. He also serves as the Rams Academic Coach and explained that role. Anderson also promoted the U of R Rams 50/50 raffle with proceeds going directly to the self-funded football program.
- Edmonton Elks running back James Wilder Jr. was scheduled to appear in Hour 2 but had to bow out due to a scheduling conflict.
- Rod broke the news that Friday’s show would be John Frenzy’s last and the Hall of Fame Roughrider broadcaster thanked the viewers and the hosts and said the show’s given him “a reason to live.”
- In the Viewer Takeover segment things got testy over the CFL Return To Play and one CFL game day staffer wrote in with some heated comments. Rod steamed, “DON’T BLAME ME THAT THEY’RE NOT PLAYING!” The host said hopes are sky-high across the league right now but he’s not allowing himself to get burned like last year.
- In the last segment Rod and Moose Faced Off for UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant on who the Vegas Golden Knights will play in the Stanley Cup Final? 🙂 Rod said it’ll be the NY Islanders while Dupes opted for Tampa Bay.

There was a season and game where Frenzy had to fill in on the colour side for a Roughriders radio broadcast. I had known Frenzy did the games in the 1970s before my time. I know when Frenzy was reintroduced to the new audience via the old radio show and then add in that one game he did. I can only surmise the equivalent in voice/gravitas/presence would be Moses delivering the 10 Commandments from Mount Sinai. He was literally that good. He said last year, “Murders/suicides/divorces…..” Without Roughrider football. He is a Prophet. Frenzy don’t retire!!!!! Just do the MLB… Read more »
I agree, don’t go John.
